I dont know if anyone has noticed, but the moon rush is now the manestay tactic of fleetops.
i would like that to change
so i propose armed mining statrions.
possabaly armed through the same mechinism as how statbases get up gunned
(btw i am eating a realy gross chese sandwhich, that could be messing with my mind.)

i have long thought this, definetly tho, they need somthing, somthing to protect the miners,
and miners could have stuff, like feds have point defense, the kligons are fine, and then roms could have maybye reduce fire button for miners idk.......

I don't know: mining raids are to teach you to protect yourself. Afterall that's what defense turrets are for

or just maybe, just maybe you could use your fleet of ships to defend them...
if you knwo your mining will get hit early then just be ready to protect it early... hell hit theirs first and they wont go for yours... but no mining stations don't need any self defense, after all their duty is to mine... and to be fair early attacks are easy to fend off, even the fed warp in one...
learn... adapt... conquer... LAC

Actually i think it would be realistic for the klingons mining stations to be armed, but everyone else has turrets for that.

but you forget, their miners can turn into fighters when most other races let their ships perish, theirs can go down fighting and they have one of the most powerful turrets in the game...

no i didnt forget i was just thinking in a klingon mindset do you think they would have any stations without some kind of armament.

yes because the honour is getting a ship and dying in battle and usually things like mining were for people who had committed crimes... as we saw on enterprise though archers trial and that whole klingon hybrid thing... that station only had sheilds...

The problem is they showed all too little of the mining and cargo aspect of star trek. I propose each freighter and construction ship be given a "civilian phaser" so that a few freighters can fend off a destroyer or two. After all; space is dangerous out there; you never know what asteroid needs blowing to bits or pirate is lurking in that nebula! not to mention the constant fear of cloaked ships... Also, to reflect these civilian vessels reluctance to fire, they could be put on "orange alert" where they only fire when somebody else fires in sensor range (like yellow alert but all miners will fire on a target that attacks 1)

Just curious, but what does "fend off a destroyer or two" entail: are you proposing that these freighters can actually destroy enemy destroyers? I can see it now... the age of .. freighter spam.
Seriously though, why can't people learn that an unprotected mining outpost is really juicy and ready for a quick strike. You should protect your outposts just like you protect your research and your shipyards. I think there was even a thread posted on giving weapons to shipyards and research stations a little while back... why on earth you'd want to reward someone who doesn't use their fleets effectively I can't imagine

Didnt most shipyards and starbases have some sort of weaponry to defend themselves? anyway, what i am proposing is if you have 2 moons in the vicinity of each other and there are the reccomended number of freighters around each, the combined firepower could destroy 2 attacking destroyers with maybe a couple losses. so basically 2 or 3 offensive power. This would help discourage rhienne raids or b'rel bombing runs.

Here's your frieghter with a civilian phaser.
I stole this off of some Star Trek fanboy website. I think it was called memory alpha or something. It's a summary of the DS9 episode "Return to Grace". And to thwart responding threads, yes they got a big honking space gun and put it into their cargo bay. After jettisoning all their cargo to put something like the Ion Cannon in Star Wars into the hold. Not unlike the Klingon miner, mind you.
An offense of 2 or 3 won't even scratch the hull of a destroyer. Not even if you have 4 or 6 miners firing. It really is possible to defend your mining base, or take the destroyers you built and take out theirs. I have faith in you guys! Now go defend your mining properly!
The Klingons scan the Groumall and clearly see no threat. They begin leaving the system at one-quarter impulse and to add insult to injury, lower their shields. Dukat is predictably incensed by their taunting, and orders the Groumall to open fire on the Bird-of-Prey. After Kira tries unsuccessfully to dissuade Dukat from attacking, she tells him to target the underside of the hull, the ship's weakest point. Despite taking her advice and firing on the Klingon's weakest spot with their shields down, the weapons of the Groumall fail to breach their hull. The Klingons bear down on the Groumall and Dukat prepares to be fired upon. In a final indignity, the Klingons simply pass the Groumall and leave the system, their honor not allowing the destruction of such a weak enemy.

I guess you have a point there hmm...

Thank you! that is what i would like! something to hold off destroyer raids for like 20 seconds while my sabre cavalry rides to the rescue! one thing though to round it out: you cannot mine and you have to dump any loaded cargo when firing as well as not being able to fire while docked with a mining station.

well if anybody remebers, i had the idea a while ago of giving the mining a special ability, just to fend of that borg probe, or to fend off those breals for a second till help arivves, if i remeber my ideas were as follow
borg: get nothing, cus there probe is to powerful
feds: 3 delta flyers can attack one ships
roms: sabotage, and destroy, one ship under idk 15 defense?
kligons: defense phaser (like there contruct, and they already have mining ships turning into war ships, so yeah)
dominion: a bunch of small workerbees and shuttles come out of the bay and ram into a ship,
so yeah.......... just to fend off for a sec, or take out one
