Alternative to cease fire

A recent post got me thinking about cease fire:

I don't like the cease fire option very much, i get the impression most people agree.

Maybe we could have an alternative to cease fire, still completely optional.

the new "cease fire" would be a couple ships from your race which defend your base at the beginning, then leave later, here's how it would work.

you would start the game with the option selected and at the start of the game a number of AI controlled ships would appear near your base. they would be friendly to your team and hostile to others. the fact that they are AI controlled means they are not your ships, and they will be hostile to enemies that would want to rush you. after an amount of time they leave (like a warp-in)

3 options would be available:

- the length of time the ships remain, so you can have them there only for 3 minutes just to stop rushes.

- the number of ships

- the strength of the ships, so if you want to stop all attacks you can have high tier ships, if you just want to make rushing harder but not impossible, you can have basic destroyers.

my rationale for this:

from a feds point of view:

starfleet sends you to establish a new base, they would probably send a couple ships to protect you, but they wouldn't be under your command and they would leave when you are ready to defend yourself. it makes sense. the other races have similar rationales.

hmm Interesting idea id be curious to other people ideas about this but i defiantly see this as a better alternative to cease fire.

Would make a lot more sense then just not being able to shot :)

I actually think it could work because you would just have to add them into the avatar-replacewapon and set them on a warpout timer.  I think it could be pretty cool, just have them on a speciaql techtree that would only allow them to appear when it was selected.

I like this idea alot.  Personally I think this is how warpin should work.  6 or so ships warp in, AI controlled and warp out about 5 minutes later(or however long the devs like)

Warp-In isn't Starfleet sending temporary reinforcements, it's Starfleet ships getting a distress call. Ships that answer generally tend to stick around until the problem is sorted. Namely, the end of the game.

I supose.  I figured you could warp in those 6 or so ships in a conflict, and they would leave once the conflict is over, or once the enemy is out of the immediate area.  Its just my opinion though.  I"m perfectly happy with how it is atm. :blush:
