Allow Build Alien Techtree Setting

For this idea, the title just about says it all.  I would like a setting in-game that allows the host to choose whether or not you can build off of the alien techtree if you manage to capture a vessel.  Even if it's not used online, it would be a great feature to have offline.

i am not opposed to this if the default is as it is now, prohibited and its set by the host as a preference, like unlimited resources and cease fires.

i doubt it will happen though as it sounds like work for the devs to do which very few people actually want.

I would probably use it if the techtree you build has your names and tech on alien classes and stations. Unfortunatly, that would be a lot of work and extra odfs.

Oh yeah, I would like to have this in instant actions games against AIs.

But it is up to the devs. I'd enjoy it sure enough.

It wouldn't require a single extra ODF file to implement this.  It would be hard-coded with a single if-else statement.

Lol! If only it was that easy.
Here's something for you to try, download and install Tyler's Galaxy X mod. Make sure you follow all the instructions to make it work properly. Once you've done that think about what it would take to enable your idea. Its not a bad idea but it is more work than you seem to realize.

Saying is always easier than doing  :lol: I could use that feature as well. If you build the Unity Starbase, you would be able to build Klingon ships for the Fed and vice versa.

we are working on a new implementation of mixed-tech at the moment, which should be featured in one of the next patches (nope, that's not the famous "soon")

There are no plans at the moment to implement building an alien techtree. That's something we don't like much (the whole mixed-tech idea started with this dislike after all)

Can i make a suggestion? Currently once you've researched mixed tech for one race and you've build the mixed tech yard for that race all mixed tech units are instantly available.

What i propose is a single mixed tech yard, but with separate research for each race (Borg, Federation, Klingon, Romulan and Dominion) before the mixed tech units can be build.

I think mixed tech research for each race would be the way to go. Past that, prehaps change it so IF you have the mixed tech research for that race, and one of that races shipyards you can build SOME ships of that yard.

If you capture a starbase, you can build scouts from that race.
If you capture a yard, you can build a few of that races ships, prehaps that races mixed tech ships with your races.

So if Borg capture a Federation yard AND have a federation adaptation yard up and running, they could build a very limited number of mixed tech borg/fed intrepids, or Roms with a captured Fed yard AND fed mixed tech researched could build a limited number of cloaking defiants.

it could be unbalancing, but if you capture that much the games about over anyway.

Prehaps limit it to 6 ships, 1 ship in the case of certain (lol dominion) larger ships of mixed tech.
