Aesthetic: Fed Civil Class Names

Post ideas and suggestions on new features or improvements here.

So I was noticing a miner in the Admiral's log (destroyed by my Serkas ) named the USS Ocean.

Kinda got me thinking:  How about altering the name of the Federation miner to be a geographical feature of Earth?  The Constructor is the Mediterranean Class.  Could it be a gimmick that Federation Civil Craft Classes be named things like "Mediterranean Class, Pacific Class, Atlantic Class, Andes Class, Alps Class, Arctic .... etc.)?

Might be a fun way to tie in some Earth-Centric stuff ^-^.

The Mandril Class got its name from a colony, so a better name theme for it would be something like colonies or cities. Maybe Federation-specific or including alien empires, but not limited to Earth.

I think Boggz is talking about changing the name of the class, but I could be mistaken.

The Mediterranean Class is named after a colony on Alpha Centauri according to FO lore I'm afraid.

We've already got quite a lot of Earth centric stuff as it is - I'd like to see more of the 'Federation's' impact  :sweatdrop:

Prehaps hit up memory alpha and what not and find features of various founding members of the federation to use.

MA has a pretty long big of Federation, ex-Federation, Bajoran, Klingon, Cardassian & Demilitarized Zone colonies and planets. There is enough their to give the regular & Mixed-tech Mandril, both avatar and starting Mediteraneans entirely unique and modestly-sized lists without repeats.

Unless both Civilian ships get their name from the smae source, it's the Mandril Class that got the name from a colony.

there could be two colonies in the alpha centauri system.

It's not a Human colony, it's a Federation colony; all Earth colonies would became Federation colonies after it was founded. Except those that chose to become independant later on, which doesn't include Alpha Centuri.

Yep, we do want to add more non-terran stuff of the Fleet Operations universe as ship names. The current name lists already include ST references :)

Cool!

Seems like it would be fun to start getting more "Federationy" stuff, even if it's just aesthetic, and get away from the purely Starfleet feeling of it ^-^
