I really want to try Phonenix's "The Void" map, and also Tyler's "Strength in Darkness", but I don't want to sacrifice online compatibility. Any chance the devs could include that odf with the next version of flops?
Then:
1. We can all have maps with no stars
2. We can play Phoenix's and Tyler's awesome void maps.

Maybe even Gamer's black holes too? Would give engine overload a new twist :P Especially since we now have a couple of black hole maps. Would make interesting gameplay too.

Aye, some of us have been wanting that odf in there for 3+ years now  :sweatdrop:  :D

As an additional note, Tyler and I have standardised our void maps to use the same odf  B), so if the devs were to add "stars_the_void.odf" as standard, then both our maps would work exactly as they do now!

I don't know what I did back then but I don't think I needed a special odf for my Void. But maybe I'm missing something here or there  :ermm:

Yours probably had stars. The maps in question are more like the void from Voyager than just empty.

I recall I changed something. But I believe it finally worked for everyone else without a special odf. In fact my map wasn't just empty, it had like the mentioned episode no visible stars. I don't know if it is compatible with 3.1.2 since it was made for 3.0 or even an older version, at least some patch around that version. Maybe I'll take a look into it again.  :ermm:

Judging by the date looks like 3PR.

I just tried it on 3.03

It is indeed a true void. I opened it up in the map editor and it looks like it's starfield is set to use "stars_void.odf", so it seems that you added you own odf. Not sure why others don't need that file though (I certainly didn't!)

If you use a map set with a 'no stars' odf but don't actually have the odf in your game, the map will still show up without stars. You still need it to actually set the starfield, but after that it still works.

Just tested it on Strength in Darkness.

I think it's because that odf was incorporated into FO on the sly... or maybe something similar  :sweatdrop:

FO doesn't have any void odf by default.

That odf tells it how many stars a map has, if it's not there it doesn't know it should even have any and you get a blank, black background.

3.1.3 will include an odf for empty space :)

Yay! :woot:

I just want to say thanks again to the Devs for being so couperative with us modders, doing things like adding blank buttons in, stock compatibility, and now this...  Thanks guys!

p.s. Congrats Optec or your 4000th post

So there's the answer
Obviously I simply renamed the odf which was/is kind of "dirty" since I obviously didn't make a special void odf  :sweatdrop:
Thanks to all who tried again and thanks to the staff for adding an odf for blackness

Soo..  Let's see a few more Void-Style Maps!  The blackness gets a little annoying for darker races (ahem, ships), but the battles look incredible.
