Another uniqueness idea: Give one race a cost over time economy (as opposed to cost up front). No cost changes or build/research time changes.

I would suggest either Klingon, Federation or Romulan, as (currently) those are the most similar.

Could you explain your idea further? I don't really think I understand at the moment  :sweatdrop:

I think he's implying an idea where you build a shipyard and the the cost of maintaining the first few ships is very inexpensive per-ship, but as the total number of ships produced / or / in service increases, so does the overall cost per ship.

Kind of like in many less complicated games where you get a "tax cap" of how much income you lose based on having a higher standing army.

Stop me if I'm wrong, Yandon, but I'm assuming this is like saying ships 1-5 cost X, ships 6-10 cost X+Y, while it goes so on and so forth.

supply costs increase each time you have to buy them. Wouldn't this be the same as what you are proposing? it's not necessarily a direct correlation relative to time. But over time you need to purchase more supplies in order to expand.

I think he means a ship while it's building uses up a dilithium rate per minute.  Take the Kbeajq.  Instead of paying 432 dilithium or whatever up front, it drains your dilithium by 287 per minute (what is what it does now), so about 5 dilithium per second.  I hope I'm right. :sweatdrop:

An interesting suggestion. So would construction halt if you run out of funds?

hmm. I hope not because it would be hell planning on how to spend your money effectively if you choose to buy something and the money drains slowly instead of just being deducted entirely up front. Would construction just halt if you ran out of resources?

Nope, because you would have a line of credit from your JC Penny Mastercard if you ran out.  Only 47% interest! :D

How do you think Picard got period clothing in First Contact? ???  From the mall kiosk on deck 12....duh.  That's who he was contacting via the computer.

Oh, and if you don't pay your bill on time, the Ferengi will do more than reposses your derelicts.... ;)

Well they better look in the head... i'll leave plenty of 'derelicts' for them to collect.

Edit: Yeah, what Mal said

Hmm... not "upkeep" (in the Warcraft sense - ugh :P ), but as in:

Now: I build a ship and it cost X di an Y tri when I click the button. Then at Z time, I get a ship. (same with research.

Suggestion: Make it so that when I click build, it X/Z di & Y/Z tri is decremented each second (assuming Z's unit is seconds).

Here's the diff (pro & con): You can queue up many ships/research (one per yard/facility) at the same time, even though you don't have the resources to complete all of them at the moment. If you run out of resources in the process, though, you're ships/research are all stopped (not canceled) - which can put you in a pickle. However, if you see your opponent fielding a vessel you can pause some ship construction in favor of other ship construction, giving you slightly more flexibility in production.
