And you don't even need to mine deuterium.  Its a stable isotope and can be found in molecules of water.  You can imagine a spoof of Voyager.

Torres: Captain, we need more Dilithium
Janeway: Right, lets set up a mining operation around that moon in the middle of Borg infested space.
Tovok: Erm, or perhaps I could just start running a bath?

yup that is everybody's gripe, deuterium is available on earth, in the ocean, and if m class planets are like earth, their oceans too.

typo in second paragraph?

literally anywhere, the bussard collectors get some from space.

probably thats not enough for their needs, but then there are plenty of m class planets with oceans.

 yeah, janeway had the choice of installing useful bussard collectors or pointless mechanisms for tilting the nacelles. and she chose to have the nacelles tilt.

Only in science fiction.  Only in science fiction.  Name one other "M-Class" planet that we have found!  Mars doesn't count.

There are some factions that would have almost no use for Dilithium, Tritanium, or even Duranium.  What is that think-tank on Voyager comprised of?

That neutronium-hulled ship is a stand alone. They still had use for dilithium.

That is what the Bussard collectors present on all starships are for...collecting  interstellar Hydrogen to use for fuel.By Voyager's era  Dilithium Crystals routinely were Regrown/Reprocesed to remove internal flaws by Starfleet engineneers . It was  just  that Voyagers  writers  were IDIOTS.  TNG and DS9  series had numerious  mentions  of reprosessing of  the Dilithium crystals in starships.

but this is not reality we are speaking of, it is the trek universe, so that doesn't matter.

lol, didn't they find a planet that was just one big ocean too?

I remember that, a massive ocean in space. Don't see that every day...

Probably gone now, considering the idiocy of the people in charge.

TCR_500 wrote:I have a few features that I would like to see in Fleet-Ops.  And I'm sure that some people will agree with some of these things.

  • First, put the resource names back to where they were.  Then rename Dilithium to Fuel, and Latinum to Supplies.  That should make it pretty much universal.  Plus, during trading, you get supplies instead of a metal, which is more realistic.
  • Second, make it so that when you research a technology, each ship has to be upgraded individually with that technology.  And make it so that each ship can have two or three technology upgrades of any kind available on the player's techtree.  This is also more realistic.
  • Third, put the self-destruct feature back in.  If someone it trying to capture my ship and I can't destroy them, I want to be able to destroy the ship being captured so that at least that way, they don't get the ship, and damage is done to them in the process.
  • Fourth, put the technology assimilator station and beam back in for the Borg.  The Borg always add to their distinctiveness and I think fleet-ops should reflect on that.  And the only thing that shouldn't be able to be assimilated is the technology that hides vessels from the enemy.  But limit it to maybe three or four technologies per vessel.

How do I put in a numbered list?

Okay, I'm going to revise this list a little.

2.  Make it so that a ship can be upgraded with 1 extra special of the players choice as long as the special energy cost of the special does not exceed the special energy on the vessel, and the special isn't obtained by researching another special first (eg: support specials).

3.  I wouldn't mind a fail chance for the self-destruct as long as it can be changed on a per-race basis.  Also, I think they should only be on some of the stronger vessels and the support vessels.

4.  Even if the tech assim building isn't placed back into the game, I would like to see at least the tech assim beam placed back for the cube and sphere.  But limit the vessels to a maximum of two to four assimilated weapons.

Sorry about the double post.  I thought it was necissary to get the thread back on topic.
