I don't think Tyler was asking for that.  In any case, none of those explains the presence of civil shuttle bays on military ships.

Agreed. Prehaps rename it to 'enhanced shuttle bays' ?

Well Starfleet ships are not strictly military vessels perhaps the Akira and Sovereign have larger civil bays that can handle larger construction type craft for colony support but in a crunch these large bays can reload and resupply fighters operating in the area

I believe that in times of war Starfleet ships become purely military vessels.  But your explanation is certainly possible.

I still say the name is silly, sounds like something on a mining station or a mining ship.

Actualy that WOULD be cool, get a mining ship that has its storage space holding hanger pods.

Enemy pops in, fighters pop out, enemy pops.

That wouldn't make sense, though.  First, it's a civilian ship.  It shouldn't be armed or have something armed inside it.  Second, it's meant to store resources.  I don't think they would give up space for resources to store a weak fighter or two that wouldn't deter determined enemies.

I do agree that the name seems a bit weird and could use a change, though.
