Your Mining Are Belong to Us

Getting mining assimed is annoying, but I don't think it happens too easily. You lose a ~300 dil/ 200 tri station and the borg loses a much more expensive ship.

I have to admit that I use a special kind of assim thats harder to kill than the regen assim.

You lose more than just the cost for the station. You also lose the miners (typically) and the resources that would be gathered while your mining is not up...depending on the distance to the next constructor this can be more than 1000 dil you might lose.

At the very least you loose the station, the assim can oneshot it with the assbeam.
Simply adding more crew so it can be one shot assbeamd, say enough crew so it takes 1 and a half full charges, and it ceases to be a problem. Sure it may just go and KILL the station, but that beats it taking it and scraping it, at least it worked for that kill.

Given the cost of an Assimilator, if you do the math, trading one for a single mining station and a couple miners isn't a good trade if you respond quickly and rebuild. Especially if you defend your mining. If they can get an Assim out to your mining before you can have defenses, be they turret or fleet in place? Then you screwed up. Pretty badly, in fact.

If they can defeat it then yes, you are indeed in big trouble. However, like so often with the Borg gamestyle, if you cannot defeat that one AA Assim then you have basically lost right there.

All the assim has to do to win that skirmish is capture and decom the mining base.
Even if you still have your builder there, it takes time to build the station, and that is time were that expansion is out of service.

if its an early assim rush, you can always just start a second mining station, go bone the assim down and when your mining is about to go squish, decom it, when it makes it out alive, just cancel construction.
It's just like in an assim rush, the borg really commits a whole lot of ressources to get that assim out... If its scubes+assim etc. you should already have a sizeable force and just bone down the assim. If the borg loses the assim, it will put him far behind, even, if your mining goes down temporarily.

Depends on how smart his rush was done.
Back when I played FO online, I'd rush a few relays AND miners plus the assmin to the expansion, and setup the relays there and assim everything small in sight, usualy forced the other guy to decom his station.
I'd usualy not get more than 4-5 loads from the miners tops, but in that time the other guy was setting up to take that expansion back, I was building more incubation centers and getting more connections, and getting pyrimids ready to spam, plus against some of the more inexperinced players Id foguht, they managed to meet the first of my spheres in their rush to retake their expansion.
The best opponent I pulled this off against (every time after that first, if I tried it my ass got handed to me, he adapted fast) I got like 2-3 loads off of the miners, but he crippled himself trying to take down my force there, cause I kept capturing a few ships each attack.
The worst I pulled it on (he called me a cheater and quit before match ended) he built me an amarda of ships that my assim and 3 backup assims I ended up building drained of crew and took over, which held the expansion while I built like 10 pyrimids. Next thing he knows, his starbase is shooting his stations, he asks me wahts happening, I reply 'In yer base, assimilating yer dudes'. His reply was rude, and included saying I cheated, then he disconnected.

That's a fairly common mistake, regarding easily assimilated ships. If there's Borg on the map, it's best to avoid Sabres and Monsoons, and their equivalents from other races. Akira are excellent if you can get to them quickly, intrepid will do in a pinch, or warpins.
Basically, crew size becomes a deciding factor in picking your ships. It's why I shake my head at using Defiants against the Borg. Those are the easiest of all the Eraudi ships to assimilate.

actually if your enemy doesnt do assim tech, maybe goes for dps spheres and cubes for opti, then a defiant is brilliant as it can remove their weapons a lot.
Against assim tech the defiant fails.
Auto assim rush isnt that hard to direct counter, s2, griffin/spec, intrep/akira.
They dont have teh guns, so if u have high crew ships they fail

Even as Optimize, I try to keep one Assim configured for the blue beam sitting around. Too useful to not build one.

Defiants are only good when they are allready leveld up, to sweep in, fire quantums, then GTFO.
And the guy that quit in raeg WAS trying to intrepid rush me, the thing was, I had a few groups just for my incubators, so they'd get re-crewd soon as I beand some folks over, and once I took his first small group or two of them, it became increasingly easier to steal or kill his waves of attacks.
Personaly, I've always thought that the assim beam was pretty stupid, ditto the holding beam, at most a holding beam that simply drains sheild strength and holds a ship still.
But then, I'm always against specials unless it's simulating a known ships system and not just a magic pwnstick.
fake edit casue myles posted as I wrote: Defiant can do decent on assim tech too, just lead the attack with a magic missle of weapon disabling, and micro each defiant firing again every few seconds.
Against a group of assims.......... yeah defiants a bad idea.

defiants are always good. And keeping an auto assim around late game can be useful if the enemy uses defiants to disable your guns, people seem not to do it a lot tho. Station holding beam works great to capture pesky defiants.
