Why is the borg construction ship so expensive?

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

This is actually a question i've been meaning to ask for quite some time. I'm not even requesting a change... I don't even understand it in the first place.

All other constructors are quite cheap. Considering borg continually are rebuilding their ship yards to produce ships, and are only given 1 constructor to start with, I am quite confused. It's also largely that, unless I remember incorrectly, don't  you only get one constructor with borg?

It somewhat makes sense... considering the miners can build their own mining station so yeah...

But why is it so expensive for the borg to build constructors?

Because the borg are getting such a large overhaul, and what might also be the case for all the factions, hard to say what all fits in with what.

is it a balanced issue? i.e. if the borg were to have two constructors given, and additional constructors could be made cheaply... they would have some potentially devastating strategy at their disposal? Ie maybe spam uplinks? But still... you can only build so much before your resources are depleted. They do accrue a lot quickly with 600 per miner.. but still.

Just curious.

Probably is a balance thing, the ship is about 3x as durable as the other races Constructors despite lacking conventional shields (2x for the Federation's Mediterranean) going by the defensive value.

Because the Borg have a very open tech tree, the limitation of build time plays a big part in their gameplay.

If you had 2 constructors, for example, you could open with 1 conduction matrix and 1 recycler, then immediately start building incubation chambers and ships at the same time.  The transmission matrix also takes time to build, and requires that you build a few extra uplinks or pause your ship production while your constructor builds it.

In the early game the Borg already have the fastest conversion of resources into combat ships, balanced around their having only 1 constructor.  If a second constructor was easy to get, they could spam scubes like crazy.

Add in the fact that borg mining is nearly impossible to raid, and the costs of building a second constructor match its usefulness pretty well.

Ah, I see.

its nearing 700 on the di side, so it seemed somewhat high.

i have always wondered why borg only have 1 constructor ... but to tell you the truth whenever I can get 2 constructors out on the battle field I feel like i have more "options" to expand

consider the Borg constructor to be the Borg yard :) This system will change soon, by the way

actually the yard stops moving when you build the uplink.. ^^;

Lies! It just moves even slower than it usually does :D

And again: i beg you Optec, leave the Borg Cons alone, please. Borg got so many strats with it.

Don't listen to them Optec, they have no idea what the are asking you not to do.

naw, that sounds good to me.

mainly.. permanent yard facilities for borg.. if that is in the works.

also, two constructors to start, or cheaper constructors.

their miners are more expensive too. 350ish.

I've always had troubles with borg and dominion economics.

but either way, anything new will be exciting for the borg.

i like expensive borg miners when they last FOREVER.
Hate them when they only last a minute or two and don't accumulate their own cost.. :'(

that's just part of borg gameplay. they lack cheap awesome turrets or yards to defend their mining, but in return they can more easily secure other locations with turrets that can be placed anywhere. they also can raid really well. and their miners are tough enough that the enemy has to commit serious resources to raid the borg. if they can plan their attack to catch your miners shortly after construction then good on them. when you put out miners you should either guard them or do something distracting to them. its a different system, but it has both advantages and disadvantages, like all systems.

Wait, let me get this straight.  Are you saying that the current system of the uplink building the ship exists because it's the simplest way to create modular ships, and you're planning to create a new borg yard that is capable of doing modular construction?  Sounds like a lot of coding.

nope, the uplink exists because we like the way of construction a borg ship around a central node, and i dont think this part will change
