talon refit

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

hi,

i've been playing roms vs klings a lot and after talon refit research klingon's cloak is more of an hazard then any real use. let me explain:
after rom player gets talons refited he/she gains total control over the map. there is no way for the klingons to detect cloaked scouts and cloaking for klingons is like saying 'ok, i'm so good i don't need shields any more'. every attempt to leave an area covered by spy stations is walking in a dark forest full of lions. rom player can hit&run all the time, so there is not even time to build a spy station. with a spy station cost it's v hard to get any real map contol.

talon's ability to detect cloaked ships comes too early in the game imo. it should be avalible after tychon detections r researched.

i would appreciate if someone from FO team could check this.

Yep considering the new changes to the romulans their "scout superiority" will change a bit, the talon refit will probably get more expensive. we are working on a better implementation of cloak and cloak detection either way, but that will take quite some time

Those are the risks you take when you take part in a war.

'more expensive' doesn't sound good to me. it would be better to make it cheaper but researchable only after both (scanner & station) anticloak researches. now rom players just skip those and go for talon refit.
it's just my personal feeling anyways. thx for the reply optec.

hello

i cant agree that talon refit is too cheap and fast. Its the only thing which makes battle between klingon and rom balance. Cuz one fact rom ships are very expensive and klingon ships are very cheap in comparison. Did u play against human players? AI doesnt count in game balance matters.I make some games against very good klingon human player and its was very hard games for both sides. I lose more games then i won as rom and i know to play rom quite well.

I think Deimos hit it right on the head: although the Talon refit is powerful, it is not overpowered. Right now, Klingons can cloak so many more ships (and tech up to get much more powerful cloaking ships) that Romulans need a way to spot them... otherwise you get 10 decloaking cheap veqlargs in your mining outposts, while you only have a handful of expensive and SLOW ships that will never make it there in time. The Talon actually allows you to spot such tricks ahead of time. If the Talon price were to go up by much it might not dampen this advantage by a lot... but if the research requirements were changed it would make it very hard for the Romulans to counter mass quantities of cheap, cloaking klingons.  :(

You could give the scout's the ability to level up? Sensor range affected by the level.

thats nice but after talon refit there r no cloaking klingons. and 600d/300t against 500d/1200t puls 350d/250t for sensor station vs 250d/100t for a refited talon is not good balance imo. if u can see balance here please show me.

You forgot the cost for actually building and refitting the Talon... not to mention its small sensor range (so you need more than one)

I like this idea.
