Station and Turret footprints

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

A while back we had a discussion about turret walls, and it was suggested that turrets in general get larger footprints that would prevent them from being clustered too tightly.  It seemed like an excellent idea at the time, but the devs were busy working on the faction redos.

Now I have another concern; yard footprints.  As a Romulan player, I have gotten in the habit of building my yards directly above the resource moon to allow easy access for my miners.  Unfortunately, as both Spretz and I discovered recently, this can cause serious pathing issues for some warbirds which will become unable to enter the yard.

At first I wanted to ask that the station's blocking be made smaller to prevent this, but as I thought about it I decided that wasn't the answer.  I believe that all yards in FO need to have slightly bigger footprints to prevent them from being built too closely to other structures.

Right now, aligning your yard with your mining is a key part of gameplay that many new players overlook, and it can become a serious advantage for the player who does it.  While it's a smart move to allow your miners to slip directly into the yard, I think this should be made less extreme by forcing the yard away from the moon a bit.

In "real life" they would never build space structures so close to each other, partially because space is HUGE, but also because it could be dangerous and tricky to maneuver.  Larger footprints on turrets and yards would reflect this.

If nothing else, the Romulan yards should increase their footprint to prevent Warbirds from hanging on obstacles.  I expect that all yards would encounter fewer bugs if they required more free space at their entrances.

i agree, a small increase in footprint shouldn't be too unbalancing. maybe give each yard a few more hitpoints to compensate for taking up more space.

I have seen pathing problems with some of the larger ships (bigger than a Sovereign) that I've added to my games getting hung up on a corner of the Federation yards (FO stock or otherwise) or doing a stand in place dance all over trying to align with the repair node on the yard.  It may be my fault partly in the last example since I'm placing the stations literally one turret width on the sides and about a Sovereign length at the most on the top/bottom.  That's not leaving a lot of turning space to line up with or avoid things.  Will the increase in footprint size be the start of stopping some if not all ships from hanging on the yards?  Sometimes I have large ships (larger than Sovereign) coming straight at a solitary yard, aimed right at the repair node, and they do that stuck in place dance.

Hmm.  I've never seen a ship bug out when it had a clear path to the yard, although I don't use the large modded ships you're talking about.  Warbirds are about the biggest I get, although I suspect V-15 Dreadnoughts could experience some trouble as well.

So I guess they only really need more space in front of the entrance, the other sides are fine as is.  I'm worried that this could cause random problems on some maps, but they should be small and if there was ever a perfect chance to make this change, it's this next patch.

Some ships I've made larger than a Warbird and or Sovereign from FO stock ships to get a visual difference for some new weapons load-outs.  These ships seem to dance in place when the repair node is on the top front [McKinley, Eraudi, antares] of the yard.

When you say around the front entrance is that as in the yards build node or it's visual "entrance"

I meant the side they enter to repair, which I guess is different from the place that built ships come out in some cases
