Miranda II
You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

I just played a game versus Dominion and captured one of their construction ships. Then i built a mixed tech yard and some Miranda II. I asked myself why such an old ship has more defensive value than a Galaxy class. After some battles i promoted it to veteran and then i wondered why such an old ship has more defensive value than the newest Federation ship, the Sovereign (both Lvl 6).

Because it isn't an old ship, and it is very rare. It isn't like you see them in a game very often, so they can be awsome. You don't really need more reasons.

Plus, the Miranda-class spaceframe is a much more rugged one than the prettier Galaxy-class. I'm remembering that bugship ramming attack that destroyed the U.S.S. Odyssey by impacting its "neck". The way the Miranda-class is designed, there's no way to "decapitate" it like that easily.

Sure the Galaxy is more an explorer, but it should have stronger shields, cause over a thousand people live on it.
And maybe the hull of a Miranda 2 is more durable, but the shields of a Galaxy should be at least twice the strenght.

But the miranda 2 is a war ship. the Galaxy is not. That is why it isn't that great compared to the miranda 2.

As far as I know the fleet ops Galaxy does not carry over 1000 people through space...
Also, as far as I know we have never seen a Miranda II in the series, so it is - like many other vessels - a fleet ops universe only ship. It appears to be a newer class or refit than the Galaxy... so why shouldn't it have stronger shields?

It is designed after all with Mixed Tech...

The miranda 2 is a seperate class from the regular miranda just like the excesior 2 is a seperate class from the regular excesior. Starfleet (Optec, DOCa Cola) decided to honor those valiant warships by designing starships that look just like them with updated systems.

The Miranda / Miranda II class is most definitely canon - look closely in the episodes of DS9 that have the large battle scenes - you'll see the usual Galaxies and Akiras, but you will also see the unique hulls of the Mirandas.

Actually the miranda dates back to wrath of khan, but I'm sure most of you knew that

Every Miranda on DS9 has been the same configuration as the Reliant.

Maybe its a crew configuration for battle, but that shouldnt affect the shields.

The Miranda Is one of the most rugged designs, even though it was made in the 23rd century, the lack of weak spots and the fact that it's easily upgraded ( small size ) makes it the perfect ship to turn into a warship, and besides it's the Miranda II and made with a little bit of help from the dominion, so it's bound to be tougher, although I think it should be equipped with phase poleron bursts, cause it just sounds dominion tech, unlike "dual quantum pulse"

Remember that the Miranda II and Excelsior II are completely seperate chassis. In fact, the Excelsior II is the sister project to the Sovereign. Neither are refits, but instead are modern vessels that pay homage to the originals
