LuSpet: The hated nemesis
You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

Hello, I am posting on behalf of my roommates who think that a massed LuSpet fleet, with Field of Fire, is broken beyond belief. Is this true? How true is it? What are good counters to this fleet of death?

area weapons - including field of fire - will be changed in the next patch to show a better predictability

It will be receiving treatment similar to sensor blackout? This change makes sense. Thank you!

Lol well indeed Sensor blackout could use a redo.  It has no cap on it's effect and in numbers take's 3/4 of an enemy's firepower off the battlefield for 25 seconds (far longer than it takes to decide a victory).
Luspet's on the other hand ...
Luspet's require to have field of fire:
Battle Yard, Armory, Ordinance Depot, Field of Fire Research
Then they have to be built.
They are SHORT range battleships.
Yes, Field of fire has a nice range, and massed they will just destryo a group of destroyers. HOWEVER, the damage they do is split amongst affected units, and the hull damage itself is RARELY enough to destry anything bigger than a light cruiser.
Basically, given how hard it is to tech up with Klingons effectively, if you are destroyed by 20 Luspets:
You F'ing deserve it.
Sorry. I've only once in Multiplayer been able to field a large group of Luspets and yes, they worked wonders but by that time you should be able to counter them with battleships of your own. They are short ranged so just about any other battleship shouldhave an edge.

Short ranged, but fairly nimble and have damn strong defenses
I love LuSpets, and ironically despite the splitting AoE they are still powerful enough to teach most cruisers a lesson too (with FoF of course)

And are a really nice counter to long ranged kiting vessels.

Damn right

Especially if you can aim field of fire to only affect a certain number of vessels. You can easily whittle their numbers down in that manner.

Plenty of good counters to Lu'spet fleets.
Sensor Blackout/Excel II
Massed Silent Resolve (Yes, this one is a bit unholy, but what do you expect from the pointy-eared devils of Trek?)
Dominion - depends on puretech or Breen, honestly. Lots of options, and if needbe, you can goad the Lu'spet fleet into FoFing some bugs, only to swoop in more bugs after the FoF, and go on a ramming spree. Generally, S-7 Defenders, the Dreadnought (and it's special ability), Breen Cruisers, Breen Battleships, V-13s...all great counters.
And of course...Resistance is Futile. A fleet of Neggies is far more dangerous to the Borg than a fleet of Lu'spet. And they have similar enough prices that against the Borg, my Battle Yards are gonna be making Sang and Vorcha, and my Imperial Yard will supply me with Negh'var for Cube-crushing duty. (Before anybody shrieks, if you have the gall to try to send one Negh'var against a Cube, I hope for salty tears over that Negh'var's inevitable fate. But the Negh'var has high Offense, and most of it is based in the torpedo.)

I think this would be the worst thing anyone would see.....
A Combined fleet with:
6 Canaverals (using their blackout when in range)
4 Excel IIs, Romulan Refit (using their vector torp)
3 LusPets (striking the fleet with their shield penetrating stuff)
2 Romulan D'Deridex Warbirds (using their stealth field on all who haven't been blacked out)
1 Descent Class (wiping all of the destroyers out)
Now that... would be a Flt Ops Pwning...

Worst that could be seen, honestly, would be an allied force of Borg Cubes and Canaverals.  The only thing more hideous than multiple cubes coming at your base is multiple cubes that you can't shoot back at.

Dont forget to follow it up with several romulan mixed tech repair ships. In case you do get shot at

I say the worst comnination is Dominion and Borg (assimilate avatar) together. While waiting for dreads, all you need to defend with is Bugs to ram incoming warpins and reins/griffins. Then when your enemy concentrates both their fleets at your most likely target of dreads, your ally with all his assimilators goes to your undefended ally's base and assimilates everything. He then takes the constructor he just assimilates and builds only adaptors and assimilators from now on. When your fleet and the enemy's finaly cross, all you have to do is assimilate and ram most of it. then let the weopons do the rest with dread special!
Oh boy what a lot of fun!
