God I love the Romulans in this build. They are awesome, and because of this I now know how to wipe the floor with any AI hard. The secret is a very very fast tech up. First of all, forget destroyers and go strait for the talshiar academy. Research the support refit for the generix and upgarde both tech levels ASAP. Then build the Warbird yard and get as many tavaras out as you can. with 16 generix recharging your shields, there's not much the comp can do. Once all the tavaras are out, start building dderidex, cehaler and norexans. My final assault fleet was like this. 5 tavaras, 11 dderidex, 8 norexan, 8 cehaler and about 16 generix support ships. I destroyed hundreds of fed ships and stations and my loses where 1 dderidex,
1 norexan, 1 cehaler and 4 generix. The funny thing was that in the admirals' log one tavara had a combat record of over 40 enemy ships killed.

They are pretty sweet :). Alas, I believe that, amongst other things, the Tavara is going to receive some "tweaking" for 3.02. It might not be so easy after 3.02

even if they nerf the tavara, you still can get the generix support very early in the game and they'll recharge your shields and the comp is gonna get it :P

Hehe and let's not forget the Serkas, if you can keep your fleets away from friendly fire those ships devastate everything. In all my tests they take down a Borg cube faster then any other ship.

good point and with that research they can fire while cloaked as well

i just tried out the romulans. i didn't like them in a2. they're just beyond cool now. especially those tavaras and those shield recharging ships. i was totally unstoppable. and because of the tavaras, i was even able to get some of my opponents ships. and the tal shiar academy, that's just wrong. you could see their ships even for a short time. you could plan ahead.

oh. i also forgot the tavara's can have their weapons and shields upgraded like starbases. heck, they are like starbases only mobile and they totally rock.

the tavaras are good.
I  just find the shielding of the Tavs to be too strong. Even my dominion dreadnoughts have trouble taking down a Tav.

The weapons of the Tav are perfect. No need to tone down the Tav's weapons. But the shielding does need to be toned down. It ends up making the Tav practically as resistant as a Cube.

That's the feeling I get everytime I play as Borg against the Romulans.
Seriously....IT'S A CUBE!

the Tavara is under balancing at the moment and she will become a little more special in the next patches. She will still be a very powerful vessel, we have some stuff in mind for her :cloak:

cool. look forward to it :)
It's a great ship, just find her shields a little too resistant.

I love the tav to be like a Cube, but it can be built much too easily. Romulans are the my favourite race by far, but their developement is slow until you've got generix and then rushes towards tavara quite instantly. I think that the later stages of the romulan playing should be slowed down a little. Ther is hardly any d'deridex-periode in the middle (IMEpxerience), which is a pity, as long as it is the Rommies most wellknown ship.

Making the tavara more special sounds really exciting to me. I'm looking forward to it!

To be honest, the Tavara isn't the actual powerhouse of the Rommies.  :cloak: It's actually the Norexan.  Just look at it, and you'll see why. The speed coupled with the versatility of it is amazing, and I use Spectre, not support, refits to back them up, and use D'Direxes as an end-all vessel, while keeping my support and frigate refits of Generix at home, while sending the above to the enemy base. That is, of course, going up against conventional races such as the Feds. The Borg are a different story entirely.

There is no sensible reason, why I don't like playing the norexan, I must admit. Maybe it reminds me too much of a klingon raider-ship, just bigger.  :sweatdrop: As I think the Borg are a little overpowerded, I always hunt them down first. Thus I'm attatched with anti-big-ship tactics, which makes me a weak player against spammers.  :pinch: In end-game I also use the d'deidex besides tavaras to make by fleet withstand mayor attacks.

So the Tavara is a spamming Cube?
