i've heard of MW, i'll accept that they are reputable (i've heard of them, even if i've never used them), although not as good as my sources

i'll give you a freebie and say that the collins dictionary half agrees with you by listing it with an "especially for ancient roman" remark. brings the score to 3-2. we'll play by tennis scoring (2 points clear to win), there's no real consensus among dictionaries.

lol with the dictionary pokemon.
was that desent vs tavara using the specials?
if you played it (no retreating)id assume desents would win. but if you cloaked out and kept using the comando special you wouldnt loose with the tavaras
next up, (if any one want to try it out)3 desents vs 1 of these

and then the dreadnought
and why not a (none tactical) cube
edit,
tho instant win if you use 3 BortaS with there specials ion storm

I have to take back what I said earlier about only using them to guard mining bases. I was playing around with them and I got three Descents (maximum in a normal game although I have a modded game......of a modded game, LOL)
I found that if I set the special weapons to green and micro them (did I mention how much I hate microing ships) between those three Descents and the repair ships I can take on fleets two or three times as powerful as my Fed fleet and literally lose at most a ship or two and its always one of those Sabers or Mongooses.
Regarding those V17s or whatever they are called. How exactly are they supposed to be used? They only have one beam weapon and its fire rate is slow and while it does a good job on low end ships it doesn't seem to do much to higher end ships. I have seen catfights between those and Sovereigns or even Warbirds and it takes forever to kill them even though it looks way more powerful on paper........or should I say my screen.

from your description i'd guess you're talking about the s7 defender that hellodean posted a picture of.
it's a giant moving turret with several advantages:
- it's powerful but still moves.
- it takes less damage from long range weapons, meaning that when the enemy tries to outrange you, they do less damage. they have to use ships with short/medium/arty weapon ranges.
- it has a special that basically turns off an enemy ship's engines for 14 seconds. has to be micro'd to avoid the knockback pushing the ship away.
- EDIT: oh and its beam weapon does increased damage to large targets. this is a late game way of defending something against large ships with a small contingent of your s7 defenders.
use it on large expensive enemy ships to take out their engines for your main fleet to get the kill.

actually, if you play as mason, get six of these nova class fully promoted to Veteran

as it " Adds 2 slots to the Warp-In."
it means you can get 22 warp in slots, meaning 7 Descents (when they get 4 promotions)

then you can get 2 of them to Veteran if you decommission the novas
same thing if you want to get 7 Teutoburg

LOL..........sorry meant monsoons.
I didn't know that the novas gave you extra cap. It's not a huge issue for me since I use the buildable warpins mod that gives me extra slots and to be honest I focus almost entirely on Defiants and Galaxies since that combo seems to be invincible at least for me.
So the S7s are best for defense then. That is fine with me as they are so slow that I often just send the rest of my fleet ahead to fight even if it means I lose a few more ships.
Teutoburgs are my absolute favorite looking ship looks wise but they just suck in actual gameplay.

Novas give extra warp-in capacity, but the problem is that the ship competes for Antares yard slots against vessels that are better skirmishers and raiders (Monsoon and Intrepid), or superior in line-of battle (Akira). It's special is decent, but the Supply cost should make any Fed player wince.

Apparently you have not med my fleet of Maysons akira/nova/excelsiorII + wap-ins before, have you. The Nova special has the highest DPS in the game (dominus talked about somewhere around 200 DPS if sued with correct ships). Novas are a very underrated, but powerful ship, with a nice anti-shield bonus, returning of supplies, warp-in slots and a kick ass, nearly OP special. I used them on regular basis, specially once mid-game begins and I already have some intrepids, monsoons and warp-ins (and at that time I start pumping out akiras form the second yard , with E2 usually joining in the late game).
