Defiant Quantum Torps

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

The Defiant class is wonderful vs. destroyers, namely Dominion bugs as the canon demonstrates. However, the canon evidence (Valiant episode from DS9) demonstrates that a relatively stock Defiant class had 2x quantum torps (I don't think a bunch of cadets, regardless of exp, would be "veterans").

For the sake of game balance, Defiants with 2x quantum torps would be unbalanced at the present offensive level would be unfair, so I would suggest that the offensive stat be lowered, but the weapons be granted.

If it is possible (code-wise) the best solution would be to keep the offensive stat the same, but have the quantum torps only fire a burst of two instead of the usual five (?), like on the Sovereign.

I like the Defiant as it is, but the quantum torpedos do next to zero damage in my opinion.

Torpedos should do a standardized damage on every ship, since every ship has the same kind of torpedo on board as far as i know. Why should an Excelsior 2 do more than triple damage with one quantum torpedo.

I tried having weapons standardized in stock, all I got was a group of frail destroyers slaughtering everything in their path. FO wouldn't be any different.

Phasers shouldn't be standardised, because every ship has different energy outputs. But all torpedoes presumably have standard warheads? There could be some different "Mark"'s of torpedo that have different damage outputs, and maybe even velocities, but just the general idea would be nice.

Hmm. I kinda like the idea of having standard HP deduction for Torpedo impacts so the only difference to how fast a torpedo destroys a ship would be based on the target ships defensive stats/abilities. However, it does make sense that there be Quantum torpedo variants with longer ranges Etc. like the ACS torpedo, unless thats not based on a Quantum torpedo? correct me if i'm wrong....

Well, we also know that torps have variable settings, so maybe for some reason, many captains set their yields too low/high for combat  :sweatdrop:

Awww, screw it, make up whatever you want. It would look just plain odd if everything was "standardized" I think. I think Tyler said it best.  :sweatdrop:

Yea, Noctic hit this one on the head... Torps have dial a yield, and using too high of a yield could logically be a negative in combat. If their blasts aren't properly directed and instead spread the dmg out into space; they wont do much damage to shields or a well armored hull.

Maybe it would start of with 1x Quantum... at officer rank of 2 silver allows burst fire (3 shots a burst), at Officer rank 2 Gold would give both quantums (3 shots each), Veteran would add 2 more pulses and increase burst fires from 3 to 5.

I vote strongly to let it stay the way it is... The existing argument is that the USS Defiant in Ds9 was crewed at Rank 6 lvl. A default Defaint wouldnt be as bad ass, so to show the sharp increase in power from a generic to a rank6 crewed one it gets the q-torps :)

I second that.  The game would be very un balanced it it was made with cannon weapons.

On the standardized damage; I'm for it, the damage difference between ships could be achieved based on how many they fire.  So a plain Excelsior II might fire three each time it attacks, whereas a Descent would fire 6, a Sovereign 5, ranked up Defiant 4, or however many would give the same basic damage as right now to each one.

Hm, there´s one point to be considered when talking about standard damage, namely the fact that a sovie for example carries much more torpedos than a defiant does. Since ammunition is out of the question for FO, this fact has still to be considered when judging the different damage output of different ship classes.

yeah.. dont change the damage output - its good as it is.
but im with him when it comes to the graphics. it would be cool to see the ship behave like in ds9.
