Borg AI screws up every single time while Romulan AI rocks

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

Whenever I play with Borg ally or opponent, the Borg AI screws up big time, even on "Merciless". All it does is producing some medium quality ships and fly into enemy swarms of smaller ships to get destroyed.

When I played 3 vs 3 with "Borg Borg Borg" vs "Fed Rom Kli" I almost didn't have to do anything, because the Romulan Merciless AI just spammed the Borgs to death.

When I played with Borg ally just a moment ago again the same thing, just loses ships and then I have to deal alone with the 2 Merciless AIs being Romulan and Klingon. For some time I could hold it, but then they managed to always destroy my S-7 Defs before I could promote them, on their way to repair stations -_-'

So to me it seems the Borg AI should be a bit more passive and sometimes save some supply for a cube or two. As it is now rushing into combat with barely anything, it isn't worth much, even on Merciless difficulty. I think the problem stems from Borg generating supply bit by bit. When then finally they have supply for a ship they immediately build it, without saving up for bigger guns. Might also be the two fold ship creation process confusing the AI. I don't know.

They also almost never build any defense structures. In the whole 2 vs 2 game, I've seen one (!) Octo-something stationary thingy. So when the enemy fleets came all I had were my perimeters, which destroyed loads of enemy ships, but with zero help from any ally ...

The problem is that Fleet Ops was in the middle of some pretty big changes when the Devs moved onto the NX project. The Borg AI is broken in 3.2.7.

I've made a number of improvements in Tryptic's Mod, including new AI for all the races. If you want to check it out, here's the link to the current version: http://ge.tt/6Khfw1J1

The next version will be out in another week, and it's full of improvements

Do you have a link to some instructions on how to install the mod?

Also I'd like to try both, the mod you linked and NX, but I cannot find NX on the download page, only FO. Is it in development and therefore not available yet?

Yes, NX project is still in development. Let me see if I can find my instruction video for installing TM... I'll post it here later today

I just noticed that the Romulan Merciless AI cheats sooooooooooooo much LOL! Either extreme cheats going on or Romulan costs for ships are a tenth when the AI plays them ...

* There were times in that 1 vs 1 match, where I had more ships than the AI and same amount of moons, however, with time passing by the waves of enemy ships became bigger and bigger, LOADS of warbirds of all types.
* I build a tenth of the amount of ships the AI built, if that is even low enough, but with help of my perimeters and a starbase, all with maximum upgrades I threw back every wave that came, although they became always bigger. For example I had 3-4min of break and suddenly 30 more ships attack me, threw them back, 3-4min break 35 came ...
* I cannot even pay for so many ships. I had three pairs of moons with 3 mining ships on each, to get the maximum out of them, but still could not even get close to the AI in ship production.
* Another issue is the build time. The AI would have to have like 5 yards of each type to build so many ships in such a short time.
* Then the final wave was just double the size, something like 50 ships or so lol, with 25 Warbirds approximately - yeah sure, although all the time I destroyed LOADS of them, suddenly they are more than ever before.
* The final proof I got from the mined resources stats when I clicked to end the mission because it was hopeless. I minded THREE TIMES as much as the AI did, but couldn't afford half as many ships.
* I have more than double the AIs overall score.
* Probably had a 10:1 kill ratio in my favor, still not enough.

I feel sooo cheated now by the AI. I defeated it at every turn and every battle, but then suddenly 50 ships arrive and run me over, out of nowhere.

Maybe that's why the Borg AI has no chance - it doesn't cheat (as much?) as the Romulan AI. Somehow I would rather like an AI that doesn't cheat, but just plays well, in order to perform well : /
This is sort of like in Warcraft 3, where the insane AI gets twice the resources, only even more extreme and increasing the longer the game goes.

TLDW: Put it in the Mods folder, if it doesn't exist, create it ; )

Tunngle won't work for me on Linux anyway, as far as I've heard (read in other topics), so the whole Tunngle stuff I'll probably not try and just enjoy single player, except someone knows exactly what configuration it requires to play without Tunngle or other tools like it and if there is a connect direct IP option somewhere.
In the video it is mentioned that one can't play multiplayer if one uses a no-cd crack. That's unfortunate, because FO doesn't even start on WINE without using a no-cd crack.

Well, that also depends on the crack. Send me the one you've got and I'll test it XD

A bigger map helps (I use Old Space for bashing Romulan AIs). If using Fed vs Merciless Rom AI, aim for a 25-1 kill ratio (not including fighters from Avalons). Also, under advanced settings, try upping the AI's Build Time handicap. Start at 1.4 or so, and go down by 0.05 each time you win. Try to kill certain ships that are highly dangerous: Serkas (weak defenses, but murders stationary ships at Artillery range); Norexan (kill them as soon as possible as their alt-fire disruptor has a *huge* burst damage capability early in the fight); Tavara (best way to deal with it is a mix of Defiants and officer Akiras-the latter can damage through shields, hopefully dinging its weapon system, which gets knocked to "destroyed" when the Defiants' Critical Shot lands-also Remora is great at stripping their shields).

Sorry for being off topic!
