2 Steamrunners too powerful?

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

And what is the point?

When I get only one, I hope that I get another with the next load of ships... easy as that...
The Problem is the same for the enemy... he has to be more cautious ;)

the whole point of the steamrunner is that it has amazing offence but very little to no staying power, plus the chances of getting one are slim as it is nevermind two lol, i have gone whole games without getting even one  :crybaby:.i admit 2 steamies = destroyed miningstation or a yard but why  not it is artillary after all so it is just doing its job.so between its fire power and its survivability its about right

also feds dont really have a buildable arty ship so warp in steamies help alot

plus it cant be warped in as early now anyway so it can and will die very quickly

artillery support will be available via a seperate warpin in one of the future patches

i think a lot of people are missing the point. if the first warpin brings in 2 steamies, yes they will soon be dead, BUT, before they die, they will kill 1 of your buildings. they can pick any building except for the starbase and destroy it before the enemy can respond.

so its a trade, the fed player doesnt pay for the steamies, they got them for free, and sfc is still there to bring in more warpins soon, the dead steamies dont fill up the warpin cap anymore. the enemy gets a couple rankups, but they lose a whole building. you can't afford to lose any buildings early on, they just cost too damn much. plus the third warpin ship thats not a steamy can run away and join the fed fleet and go kill something else.

so the trading of 2 free steamies for a whole enemy station is a bargain. even if you had to pay for them it would still be a bargain lol. a shipyard costs a lot, once its dead its owner has to pay for a new one and waste time waiting for it to build. while the fed player has a fleet and a shipyard building.

You won't be happy unless the Steamrunner becomes nearly useless as artillery, will you?
posted on June 14th, 2010, 12:08 pm
i dont want it to be nearly useless, the only problem is when 2 come at once. maybe make them less likely to come 2 at a time, but increase the chance of 1 coming. so you will get on average out of the 10 warpin slots, the same number of steamies.

i love the steamy, i think the actual ship itself is balanced right. put in extra effort to micro it and you will be rewarded. if the enemy puts in the micro effort they can kill it. its good as it is. its the chances of getting them which i think is slightly off.

if you get two at once, bye bye enemy station.

if u get 1 in your first warpin, then 1 in your second and you can go killing unopposed with them, then your enemy should have attacked rather than sitting in their base waiting for the steamies to dish out their steamy balls of death. but if u get two at once, then unless your enemy happened to have their fleet where u warped in you can go kill a station of their's.

i was playing fed vs fed the other day and i went and eated my enemy's expansion then his SFC with my first warpin that was a double steamy.

Don't most of have the good sense not to drop the Warp-in right on top of an enemy base?  Have a little good sportsmanship.  Expansion's are another story, as well as a fact that those 2 Steamrunner's will only have time to trash something if there aren't any ships defending it.  If somebody can't even be bothered to leave one or two B'rel's/Sabers/Shrikes etc.. nearby, then a new mining platform is probably considered an acceptable expense.

It happens, it's going to keep happening, and almost everything in a game with a gun tacked onto it is a counter.

SFC can be put up when the enemy has very few ships. so splitting them like that would make them weak, not clever. even 1 or 2 of those early ships are a good portion of your fleet when the first warpin can arrive. plus 1 sabre wont be able to destroy a steamy before the steamy can kill the building.

in the game i detailed i did warpin to enemy expansion and killed a mayson phaser turret they just built, the phaser turret shot at the ambassador instead of the two steamies, and u cant choose the turret's target. the turret couldnt even take half the shields of the ambassador before the steamies killed it. i then took my steamies to their main base and flattened their SFC. they then quit. it was such an easy victory, and it was all down to my luck at getting a double steamy.

we like havin a ship serving the role of an artillery vessel, like the Steamrunner does, but its not controllable to be featured via normal Warp-In. Therefore the artillery Warp-In will probably be moved to a seperate ability, to allow people utilize it more efficient in their strategies. But wont happen in 3.1.3 ^-^

So that means that the Steamrunner will just become a torpedo cruiser like it is supposed to be? (DS9DW depicted it as a Torpedo/gunboat Light Cruiser, its main armament being of torpedoes all on the fwd arc. And had a phaser for some accuracy support) I'm in favor of role changes like this!

I think ship roles from the DW game are best ignored. FO mainly uses canon when deciding a ships role, with only a few exceptions. If the Steamrunner gets a non-canon role, I'd prefer the one from Armada.

Refitting it with a single artillery launcher I can buy, but not a full set of standard torpedo launchers.

i love the sound of this, myles is happy. thank you for good news optec.

i think gamer and tyler have misunderstood what optec is saying. stop me if i'm wrong optec, i believe you meant that the steamrunner and any other artillery warpin ships (maybe the new orleans?) will get their own warpin button, like the descent gets its own warpin button. so that the steamy will be much like it is now, but standard warpin wont get steamy, you will have to push "Artillery Support" warpin button at SFC or something like that.

EDIT: misread tyler's post.

How am I getting the wrong idea by saying that the Steamrunner is best not put into the DW role? I wasn't even talking about the FO Steamrunner, just that I don't agree with the suggestion of it being a conventional torpedo cruiser.

topics like this are the reason why i think the sfc creates more problems than its worth

see: there will always be someone that says: You get em for free and it can destroy something that did cost me something. In that way there will always be someone that thinks it should be nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed nerfed. Think, u got my point
