Uxtheme.dll Error
Talk about anything related to old versions of Armada.

Hello there
I've recently had a major system crash and its taken a while to get my PC back up and running. I was running my KA2 mod quite happily till this morning, when loading it immediately causes an error.
Access violation at address 5AD71531 in module 'UXTheme.dll'. Read of address 00000040
Ka2 runs fine when I rename the armada2hook, but when the patch is running, it has the above error.
Running the patch on a 1.1 Patched A2 Stock Installation causes the same error, so it isn't something I have done to make it crash.

Anyone? Please? This is really putting a dent in any progress I could be making on KA2 right now.
Tell you what, you probably need a bit more info on my setup..
AMD Athlon64 LE-1620
2GB DDR2 PC5300 (I think) RAM
ATi Radeon X800XT
Soundblaster Live! 5.1 SB0100
DVD-RAM (DVD-ROM with a CD Burner Combi) Drive
500GB SATA Hard Drive, partitioned into 1 137gb Partition (C:) and the rest as E:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 Latest Build (all the updates it wanted to download)
As I've mentioned, running a stock 1.1 A2 Install with your patch also causes the same error, so it isn't something I have cause in KA2 thats making it fall over.

Hey, Squire James. (We know each other from Xfire) When'd you start up KA2 again? I thought there was this HUGE thing about you not making the mod anymore...blah blah blah. Did you change your mind?

I have no idea how to help unfortunately, but perhaps is it because you did not use that patch before? ...or you haven't downloaded all the patches? Then again, you could always try to reinstall. Sorry to only offer troubleshooting suggestions

Prior to my crash, I used the Patch project 1.2.5. It seemed to work for a while on my new install then, bam, now it fails.
ALso, even when I load it without the patch, the sound acts strangely (like I can only hear a certain number, sometimes I will hear the torpedoes, sometimes the phasers, and sometimes none at all) and it seems to be very unstable all of a sudden.
Not sure what I installed or updated or whatever that caused it but, it sure is annoying.

Well, recently A2 has been working fine again (small sound driver issue methinks) but the patch still refuses to work. Can I have a patch developer come and try and solve this problem?

this issue is known but very rare. i have no idea how to reproduce it yet, so its hard to fix. thanks for reporting though, it should help to develop a fix with it faster.
do you remember anything that could have caused the issue. did you update your system or installed a software that could have changed something on your system?

Well, it seemed to function until I updated my .NET Framework, but uninstalling said framework doesn't fix the problem.

.NET Framework 2.0 I believe, although Windows Update also installed 3.0
It (Windows Update) also tried installing a .NET Framework 2.0a Hotfix, but when it installs it my PC reboots, which is, well, interesting to say the least.
EDIT: That is to say, as WinUpdate initialises the install, the computer restarts itself and says its recovered from a serious error.

A program said that it required Windows 98 or better so I installed Linux.
Linux rocks! It's like Unix without all the tangled up non-intuitive structure. Hardly ever crashes. And it looks nice!

i now do atleast know which component causes this issue but actually its a third party component i cannot fix that easily. has anything changed in the meantime or does the error persist?
maybe we should try to solve this issue via instant messenger directly
