Trying to keep compatibiltiy...

If I were to have some released ships put in as map objects (such as the Cardies), would I still be able to play with people who don't? Or do they require the same modification as me.

Make another version of FO in a seperate "test" directory. That's what I've done 

I do believe it would alter your version as you are adding odfs.

everyone requires exactly the same modified files to play multiplayer, even if stuff just added - you still have to modify existing files to integrate new stuff into the game anyway

@Gamer: i've already modded in the galor and im going to mod in the keldon. You can use those if you want. It should also work online if everyone has the mod installed (no guarantees though!).
