Planets

Talk about anything related to old versions of Armada.

I am fairly new to this mod and I find it amazing! Great work... Its brought Armada 2 to life with some rather beautiful graphics...

Now the question I have is how do you make new planets? do you have to edit the sod files and change what texture they point to? Or do you simply copy/rename them and have the textures/sod/odf all the same exact name?

OR please point me to some tutorials on how this is done... Thanks in advance!

Hellooo!  Welcome to the forums!

1, if you want to make new planets, you would have to make a SOD and texture

2, you can however just edit existing planet textures with gimp or some other texture editor.

3,  if you really wanted to, you could go to filefront, download some planets, edit the textures the way you wanted, copy the odf's in FO, change the names to match the new planets, and put them in.

That last one would be the best way to add new ones in, but its easiest to just edit existing ones.

Thanks for the reply... I ended up editing the sod files themselves and changed the name of the textures which worked out pretty good... Doing some research I found it was possible to add your own either by editing or even by adding your own custom models... but it seems there is a problem with alpha channels when i tried to apply a 32bit cloud layer to one custom model... it had hard edges as if it was improperly blended somehow... I am using milkshape and milkshape is pretty basic so maybe i need something else applied to a material in order to have proper looking clouds... I suppose I could blend the clouds with the land texture but I would not be able to animate the clouds i suppose.... Most of the milkshape tutorials for sod files are geared for ships and not for background objects so I would more than likely have to experiment... Unless osmeone else has had similar experiences and could enlighten me...
