Moons and Shroud

Talk about anything related to old versions of Armada.

Not sure if this is an error or intended, but why do moons (tritanium and dilithium) not show up when you disable shroud but keep fog enabled? Asteroids, nebulae etc show up, but not moons... :)

Probably a bug.

is that a fleet operations or armada 2 bug, or both? :D

Ahh... it is the system, the original shroud was before all thick to where you couldn't see anything shrouded. Fog is only updated upon visit of the area. But I agree that if shroud ain't there that it should appear. Though if you think about it, wasn't the shroud texture replaced with a blank one because of cosmetic dislikes?

But like I said, fog makes any unvisited things invisible, like if you were to do a long range scan in the system all you'd see were the major bodies, not the individual moons (I guess?).

I just checked. The bug is in Armada 2 vanilla as well :)

thanks for your time confirming this :) so, is it a bug or a feature? :)

Hmm, I guess it would be a 'feature' since it occurs everytime that I tested it (I guess a bug would only occur some of the time, no?). If that is so, is it a 'feature' that can be removed (as it is a slightly odd feature I think)? Seems strange that when shroud is removed you can see all map objects but the moons

Maybe this is starting to become a feature request now, if it is a "feature" of A2 (how do I confirm whether it is a bug?  :sweatdrop:)

i would like to have resource points always visible on the map, even if they are covered. that would ease "finding the first expansion" on a unknown map :)

Well, there goes the need to scout at the start... How do you 'find' something when it's already visible, despite not being visible?

This could be fixed by making a map object for the map sprite and remove the map sprite from the moon itself. You would need to redo all the maps though, so maybe that isn't the best idea. :sweatdrop:

You mean even if shroud AND fog are enabled? That I think would be bad, as Tyler pointed out. I think that if shroud were disabled, moons should appear however  :sweatdrop:

i put a todo up, but with low priority.
i can think of reasons why moons should be visible from the beginning, but even then i can't memorize all positions when i am in the game then on some maps. especially on large maps where the preview can give you only a vague position, or on maps that have moons placed asymmetric - you still have to scout.
