Fleet Ops Vista Ultimate Black Screen?

Talk about anything related to old versions of Armada.

Downloaded 3.10 and installed it with the Armada II CD. (Did NOT have Armada II installed already) It said installation successful. I then installed 3.11. I then clicked the short-cut and it takes me to a black screen with a large mouse pointer and beeps at me 1 time. and as I move the mouse on this black screen it makes other beeps like that of an LCARS menu.

I have tried Disabling Visual themes, turning compatibility for xp with service pack 2 and run as administrator. No luck, it does the same thing.

Any Ideas fellas?

Mine used to do this when I had Vista, if you Alt+Tab out of it, then open the window back up again it should show the menu (it'll be in window-mode but will go back to fullscreen when you start a game)

Thats what I figured, I should have put a post on that too, I tried it but when I alt-TAB to desktop and try to ALT-TAB back in, Vista wont recognize that its there. I can see the program on the task bar but It wont recognize it to tab back into. I also cannot click on it, it does nothing so It probably crashed my VPU, but Im not getting any errors or recoveries. I am COMPLETELY lost now.

EDIT: I went into task manager and it recognized it so i did a switch to and it doesnt even do anything... It will NOT tab back into it at all. It just sits tabed out on my task bar... It says the program is "running" but if i try to close it it says its not responding.

I used to have this problem with Vista Business, but only happened infrequently and was corrected with Blazings procedure

Could you try running windows in safe mode and see if it works there?  If it does, maybe you could go into options>graphics settings and select windowed mode.

Also, for your reference, the menu is:

-Instant Action
-Multiplayer
-Map Editor
-Options
-Credit
-Exit

The Options menu is:
-Graphics Setting
-Sound Setting
-Game Setting

This way, if you want to see if you can do anything blind, you can start your mouse from the top and go down, and each beep will tell you where your pointer is.

I'm assuming you've tried reinstalling it?

i have a similar issue with my laptop, using vista home premium 32bit and a geforce 9650m gt.  the alt-tab trick works for me, also running in window mode prevents it from happening, but window mode sucks because it doesnt trap the mouse cursor, so moving to the edge of the screen to scroll is more difficult.
also, note that this issue shows up when you go to the menus while in game.

the strange thing, while it does this every time now, that wasnt always the case... before i reinstalled recently i never had this issue. not sure about the reason for it tho, could be that i didnt configure something quite right, or i had a different version of video drivers, or it was an older version of fleet ops.
regardless, the hardware didnt change, so i assume it isnt a hardware issue.

I restarted my PC and I was able to get the alt-tab trick to work. Game works now but all the alt-tab stuff is very irritating, still, a WAY better version of armada II than the Devs, so THANKS to those that brought FO to fruition!

Glad that it works for you, Calhoun.  By the way, is your screen name in honor of a certain captain with a purple hue in his eyes and a scar on his face? :innocent:
