Strange graphics glitches in game

I've been having a problem were various textures and surfaces on ships and stations get shown wrong or seem to be missing. Zooming in and out changes which part of the ship has problems and can make the ship look normal until it moves or rotates. Weapons fire can also have problems where it has almost a rainbow effect imposed over it.
I have reinstalled the game with no difference, as well as changed graphics settings and resolution. I have also tried various compatibility settings with no helpful effects. Under dx9 mode the problem is gone but the game is unstable with frequent crashes, under dx8 the game seems to be otherwise stable and can be played for a long time with no other issues. I have also installed fleetops under ubuntu using wine and the game looked fine until it crashed :(
Any help would be appreciated, I love this game but this bug is bugging me:)

welcome to having a newer ATI card...

you need to go into catalyst control centre and create a profile for the game and change a bunch of options and then it is fixed for the most part... I don't have them any more as I've been testing windows 10 which flops doesn't work on unless you go into the .ini and force the directx9 mode which means you get no graphical glitches...

Mighty Master still has the settings I used though as I gave them to him so hopefully you can find him on teamspeak to give them to you on message him on here

Someone can share the settings?
Tried with no success.

Thank you :)

I've been having the same issue, and need help fixing it.

Enabling the D3D9 option seems to fix it, but creates many more problems that make the game simply unplayable.

That, and I've noticed that it effects the Borg much more noticeably. Quantum torpedoes seem to be affected more often as well.

Upgrading to windows 10 and using compatibility windows 7 with dx9 is the only thing that worked for me.

1. Install VMWare Worstation 12 within Windows 10 64bit. (I5 4690, 8GB RAM DDR3, ATI HD6800 graphics card, Samsung 840SSD;
2. Installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit within VMWare environment;
3. Fully updated OS;
4. Installed Star Trek Armada 1, Patch 1.2 then 1.3 (thanks to the developers);
5. Installed 'Armada Restoration Project' MOD (thanks to the developers);
6. Set Compatabil;ity Mode to 'Windows XP SP3' & 'Run as Adminsitrator' selected;
7. Start game and go to graphics settings;
8. After trial & error, have set graphics resoultion to 1680x1050;
9. Set 'Alternate Font' & 'Cinematic Window' to 'OFF'. Graphic detail to minimum (for smoother game play);
10. I tend to play Multiplayer Istant Action. The grid on the playiong map would not appear which can be annoying - solution was to turn 'OFF' Shroud & Fog.

I have played the game non stop for many hours without a single crash. ENJOY!
