Usually a big white box with that red bug on it that your seeing (can see it through the parts that aren't black) means that you are missing a SOD file. I've seen such squares before a few times even after downloading a few mods and installing them correctly. Sometimes people seem to forget to include the SOD file in some mods, I've learned from others that even when those cases occur and you ask the creator for help or for the missing file they say "you've made the mistake, that they've included all files".

From experience Miklosgo, I suggest you checkout the SOD file and make sure its not missing. If it isn't missing, make sure its not corrupt; I've seen corrupt SOD files act strangely (from not allowing a mod to launch, to causing entire races not to work if that unit is assigned to them, to even the white box with the red bug on it).

If it is there, make sure the SOD is named correctly. Spelling the name wrong has the same effect as not existing.

I think that can also appear if the SOD is not compatible with the game. Not a very common problem in A2, but can still happen.

To add something to what Tyler said, the SOD doesn't have to be spelt correctly and can use a different name if it is referenced in the ODF file as such with this coding:

Code: Select all
//True SOD File
baseName = "(SOD Name Here)"

Example:
I have a few hero ships in my STA2_Generational Mod that use a Buildable ship as their reference SOD.

This example is for the USS Aventine NCC 82602
Code: Select all
//True SOD File
baseName = "fvesta"

Note no matter what spelling counts and the file name and coding in the ODF have to match the SOD or its the same result. Both ways require careful work.

just wondered if you plan on giving credit to the original creators of the models you are using in your mods, after a hefty dig through A2files a lot of your models seem to come from there with modifications of their models or textures or re-use of their textures?

for example

I don't have access to the A2files to download files from there.

I'm converting some A2 Mods to Fleet Ops. If you know another way to play A2 mods under Fleet Ops, let me know please.
