Armade II and FleetOps on Steam Deck

OK,

I have armada II and fleetops on my steam deck now. The game seems to open properly under Proton Experimental. But Im having issues with the CD not in Drive error.

There is no version of Daemon Tools for Linux, and it doesnt want to work in Proton.

Unfortunately I am not exactly a Linux master. The steam deck is my first attempt at using it.

Any suggestions?

The legal way is to buy Armada II from GOG and to use its Armada2.exe file.

Of course. but you can use AcetoneISO, an application similar to Daemon Tools.

Wait A minute?
An ISO image of my real original Armada II disc from the 2002 Star Trek ActionPack isn't legal???

I'm just trying not to mess up the disk.

Thanks for the tip.

Though now A2 and Fleetops won't even get to the splash anymore. It worked the first time in Proton Experimental, but after that nothing happens when I click "Play Game."

Not sure whats going on yet. Didnt take time to try to figure it out yet.

One question though, this is for Ubuntu, but SteamOS is built on Arch. Will it still work/is there a version for arch?

So, I had a bit of trouble with the Sudo password, which I have now resolved, but now I ran into this. Is there something else I should need to install before acetoneiso? I know this is a common thing with Linux applications. I have found full installs that say no dependancies for Ubuntu, but arch is a bit scant. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not using Archlinux. Only Xubuntu.

You can try FuseISO for Arch> https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/FuseISO

I found an answer searching Google for Arch>

I did try mounting with the context menu, but the game doesn't see it. Possibly because there's no emulated CD drive? I'm not sure. It also might have something to do with running the game in Proton (steams WINE based compatibility layer for windows applications) Proton creates a dummy file structure of windows to install the game into for each "game" or piece of software you tell it is a game. Since the ISO is mounted on the Linux file structure, outside of the dummy one Proton creates, maybe that is an issue? I'm not sure.

If what I'm saying makes no sense, or is completely ludicrous please feel free to say so. As I said, I'm a newbie to Linux, and to making windows applications work on it.

On windows/daemon tools I had to "Create" a virtual drive, then mount the ISO into it. This was quite intuitive and worked first time, so I never really questioned exactly how it was being done. I just used it for a decade to keep from scratching up and wearing out my physical disks.

I will try the FUSEiso if I can find it as well though. Thanks for the tip.

Wait, whats " Steam Deck" is that any different than just Steam?
