Here are the pictures from Homeworld of the Formations that I had mentioned. I couldn't get a screenshot of Delta formation, but I'm sure you all know what that looks like.

Here is the sphere formation, with a squadron of 38 fighters, before it is attacking or guarding anything.... it's a little crammed.....

This is Sphere Formation, after a guard order is given. The sphere of fighers expands, depending on the size of the ship they are guarding or attacking....

How about a flanking formation, My MS Paint Drawing may suck but here goes,
Basicly the fleet splits into two fleets and atacks from two directions, ive seen something like this used in other games and it was verry sucesfull in an anbush or assult situation.
I could see this working in Fleet Ops better than others beacuse its a 2D Formation.
