Then an upgrade is the option.

mabey have most ships start out with close range attack then be able to refit it to medium or long range each with a different variation of weapons
Lets say i have 3 sabers, right now they all have close range attack which means they have all phasers and high manuveribility and thwey also got strong shields since they'd be getting most of the fire, Next i select one and refit it for medium range, and now all it is equipped with some phasers and a torpedo tube and medium shields and manueverability, next i click on another  saber and evolve it to long range, this variation gives it all torpedoes, weak shields and slow movement

The strive to keep alll races ballanced.  If you had a ship that had humungo shields, great manuverability, great wapons, and a long-range wepon, that would really make the game boring because all you would have to do is to upgrade 1 ship and beat the opposition's starbase and construction ships.  It's more fun if it's harder.

I'm not ever sure why this topic got off topic but it was originally about giving more ships the easy upgrades you can give to the Rhien class...

Definately a hot idea TMP I've seen a few people crying out on other A2 mod sites for things like that, you chould choose which ships you wanted to have which upgrades or a button that will upgrade all at the same time to the next level (like you said, extra phaser here, extra torpedo launcher there) like the shield and weapon upgrades, each level could be the upgrade for each type of ship (lvl 1 scout, lvl 2 light and lvl 3 heavy) each costing more as you went up

Well I doubt each ship should have more then 1 or 2 upgrades or else you might throw balance out the window but it does make sense, expecially for older vessels.

definately for the older vessels, maybe an advanced science station to install an extra phaser on all small vessels, an extra torpedo on medium and any large that have photon to upgrade theirs to quantum, something like that

Question: What's the damage difference between quantum and photon torps?

i think the damage its explained in the name... photontorps are highenergybased and quantumtorps... well i dont know anything about quantumphysics... but i think its more devastating.. u know.. LOL

I mean in the game.  Does a photon do 5 damage adn teh quantum do 6 damage?  I know that, a priori, the quantum torpedo is more powerful.  A posteriori, I can't tell the difference.
