I was wondering the other day on how to make bor more cannon and keep the game balanced, and this is what I figured out: Why don't u make the borg sphere a actuall battleship and make a borg cube some sort of super dreadgnouth wich costs credits. But before u could make a cube u would have to research at a special station(hull, weapons, shields, warp, impulse,...), sort of like a generix class and all of this researches would cost alot and there would be 10 of this researches(basic, advanced) and when u have researched the basic ones u could build a cube at a special yard(1 cube would cost 5 credits), but if u also researched the advanced ones u could build a tactical cube at that yard(1 tactical would cost 10 credits). And so u could make the cube and tactical cube very strong so it would be cannon, but they would be really expensive and that would be cannon. And if the borg player doesn't want to build a cube it coul also defend itself since the sphere would be as strong as a battleship. I think this would make the borg both cannon and balanced, hope u like my idea.

That idea is good, but what about combining that with the proposal I once made?

I mean, we saw smaller cubes in Voyager and larger ones in TNG and First Contact. So, what about combining the credit cost with the ability of building weaker basic cubes in the beginning which can be upgraded after doing some/all of the research. That would give you cubes earlier in the game which can only grow strong if you defend yourself long enough to gain all the needed ressources.

(Original proposal can be found here: http://forum.fleetops.net/index.php?showto...0research&st=23 More: http://forum.fleetops.net/index.php?showtopic=735&st=7 http://forum.fleetops.net/index.php?showtopic=735&st=12 )

There have been theories around, that cubes grow on their journey through assimilating resources/individuals. That would be recreated by this upgrading process.

what if the borg would have a small cube from the begining, and then it would have to assimilate an enemy ship, which would then have to be decomissioned(by the cube, which would then grow larger with every ship that assimilated by the cube, becuse the borg are all about the assimilation, and in all the time i'm playing FO i only lost one ship to assimilation!

Yeah, kinda like in William Shatners book "The Return". It mentiones how 8 Borg scouts integrate to form a tiny cube, which integrate to make a bigger one, and a bigger one. The cubes in Voyager were something like level-8 (128x128x128 scouts, roughly 640m each way), whereas the big cubes they send to Earth would be about level-12 (2048x2048x2048 | 5120m each way). Make sense?

Also, they dont always integrate into cubes. When under attack they can rush to form all kinsa of weird shapes, kinda tetris-esque. Kinda cool.

Captain's log, supplemental (ie. Edit:). I still dont know how they make spheres and diamonds yet. Cheesy

also in one of the episodes of enterprise, when the humans make first contact with the borg (after they find them preserved in ice) the borg steal a small shuttle(capable of warp1) and refit it with weapons, warp 4 capability , and make it larger, in just 2 days the borg moddified that shuttle, so that it was stronger than any starfleet vessel...

Well, they are the Borg Wink  It also shows how Enterprise is way off the mark when the first time were suppose to see the Borg is 200 years later, indeed very sad.

ok, my friend explained the enterprise thing to me... enterprise's timel;ine is of, because the enterprise-E went back in time and messed up the timeline... and also, when the enterprise-E blew up the sphere, fragments of the sphere fell down to earth and thats how the borg were there...

No it dosent solve much at all, there was still an Enterprise episode with the Borg, and there wouldn't have been if First Contact had been made or not. Thats what dosen't make sense.

I'm not sure what the best way to make Borg "cannon" to some degree but I like the Idea of Making CUBES bought on credit. Assimilation should play some factor into thier gameplay as well. But Cubes should be EVIL and BIG.
