I may say that i'd prefer an additional design for the borg. I especially would like to see early game unit, that makes sense to be built later on too. Borg starts with scubes only, which is rather simple.

The Borg probably started with their curent design style when they became the Collective.

Pre-Assimilated ships are generally frowned upon because the Borg don't usually keep ships unless they need to, and even then they propably scrap them for resources and tech examination when they've outlived their usefulness. I like the idea, though.

Borg ships being Basic Geometric Shapes based in mathematical principle, it falls in line with the Borg modus operandi, the collective mentality of seeking perfection in all things.

It may sound strange, but...

I was thinking that the Borg, in an effort to adapt to a dangerous warzone outside the immediate resources of their primary powerbase, may develop something like this -

-----

Resource Assimilation Module - Allows the Borg vessel to lock a beam onto the target.  Unlike the Assimilation beam or the Holding Beam, this beam does damage over time, as it uses modified particle streams to move nanites back and forth, stripping the target vessel of raw materials which are difficult for the collective to replicate.

-----

Effectively, attempting to forcibly decommission an enemy vessel - converting energy (and a victim) into resources.  Wouldn't help with Collective Connections, of course.

Wow that would be good. And maybe the Res Assimilator could have this as a special aswell, so if enemies attack your expansion etc the res assims can lock onto vessels and convert them into res.

Lighter weaponery usually has a hard time penetrating the tough materials of the hull, but microscopic small nanites should be able to do so? For me this is a little too far fetched.

Further you would be skimming the hull which only gives you tritanium, but no dilithium at all.

patch 3.1.2 will indeed introduce some additions to the Borg arsenal, to make the early game stages more interessting for them. Ready up your nanites and prepare for.. yea as always

At first, sure.  Eventually, however, you'll get through that hull.  Consider the damage the Nanite cloud can do, but instead of it being just turned loose in space, it's a focused job.  Kinda like the Regen module...backwards.  I wouldn't expect some massive game-breaking bonus out of it, mind you.  Though I was thinking that it would do (if possible) increasing damage over time.  At first, the beam is ignorable.  After a little while, though, you want to kill the ship doing it, or run like hell, because the longer it's been on you, the more widespread and severe the damage gets due to high-speed erosion of the hull.

As fun as all their nasty little beams are (holding, cutting etc...)  you'd think they, or anyone else, would make better use of combat transporters.
No, not beaming over troops..
Beaming chunks of an enemy ship off, like hull sections, hardpoints, or even internal systems.
Sure, it'd take more power, but that's what sneaky little support ships are for...

lol they did that in enterprise, beam off parts of the enemy ship, it was implied there that beaming off parts is difficult unless u know the EXACT position and use of every part. as they did in that episode.

.. the "exact" position, if you wanted a specific piece.  I'm talking about randomly targeting the thing and playing 'see what comes off?'
The comparison is not unlike, instead of using a soldering iron to burn out a resistor and overload a radio or something, just poking at the circuit board with the iron.  Something's bound to not be working as well afterwards, from my experiences anyway.

that would be cool but once a ships shields are gone fighting a borg ship it usually explodes shortly thereafter

True Enough, but It doesn't necessarily have to be a borg ability.  Let some sneaky little rommie ship do it... while cloaked!!!  If, let's say, Shrike's could deal direct hull damage while cloaked, old Mij wouldn't look so bad all of a sudden.
