Timing isn't everything. But it almost is.

I know mixed tech is getting a major change in the future, but in the short term, I was wondering if both the cost of the research and the time it takes to do the research could be reduced.  Vessels that could be exploitable, like the V-15 Dreadnought, are so slow now and take so long to build that you can no longer make them part of an early fleet, and whatnot.  That's good.  But it takes 7 minutes and 45 seconds to do mixed tech research, not including the time it takes to build the yard, and the insane cost for the tech.  Most games are usually over by the time you could reasonably afford and make the tech, let alone produce any vessels from them.

We like our mixed tech ships!

Aye, I agree completely. I think the change really wasn't all that favorable. Since the change, I've only seen mixed tech used 2-3 times, and only a handful of units were produced before the games ended. I wanna play with my Romulan mixed tech B'rels!

What if we could increase the cost but decrease the time?

Oof ... but the cost of researching te mixed-tech is pretty crippling in itself.  Last time I checked the Fed-Dominion mixed tech is was xxx di and 12xx tri.  Yowch.  Debilitatingly high costs for anything other than middle-late game.

I'm glad that Mixed-tech will be getting a whole new implementation because I trust Optec Smiley, but at the moment Mal is correct:  the bonuses that are given from mixed tech ships are distinctly not worth the HUGE costs and time commitment.  Not even Miranda II's are worth that.  Only Dreadnoughts are worth it simply because it packs so much power into a single vessel.

Even the Dreads aren't worth it to me. Sad  I tried making them later in a game once, and the speed at which they crawled was just sad.  They're basically only useful as base defense, like a mobile turret, in my eyes.  Which is what we saw them doing mostly in the show, but I hope they get a little faster so that they can be used in fleet actions again.
