As apart of giving the community a better understanding and a better look into the development of Fleet Ops, you can now visit a development blog run by Zeich. He joined our modeling team a few years back and made many of the new Federation models you saw in the last patches, like the Ambassador for example. I'm quite sure you will find a few yet unrevealed news on his page in the future.

This will be a great place for you to find screenshots, renders and other goodies about Fleet Ops.  In subsequent blog updates you’ll see posts about his development process, from sketches on paper and pencil, to the modeling of ships, to the texturing. You’ll also get exclusive looks at new ships and stations that are currently under progress and that will be included in new versions of Fleet Ops.

So head on over to his blog now!

I actually convert the maya file to an obj file.  Then the obj can be loaded into 3D max and can be converted into SOD.

Hm interesting... though it must have cost a pretty penny for both softwares.
