Actually, I'd dare go one level up and say that as stated in Optec's first post, the graphical animation of the ping is itself invisible. I think the only thing you will see as the player who built the sensor stations is the maximum range of the ping.

I thought we had this conversation before Dominus, and Optec was a bit cryptic in his answer?

In fact, he said this:

the animation is displayed every 10 second, so its the actual ping, yep Smiley

Well then, I guess that should clarify the contradiction in the first post  Azn

Pings are visible for everybody Smiley thats intended. it eases detection of anti-cloak networks and allows a defending player to check its detection net anytime Smiley

Timing isn't everything. But it almost is.

Oh... well!  I'm sorry Lycaon.   The way things read on the first page led me to strongly believe what I did.  That means that your concern is very valid, and no, you won't be able to hide your sensor stations, because people will see the pings.  And you can wait for the ping and then cross through with a fast enough ship, in theory.

...err Optec, that gives me a lot of questions now, but they can wait until the patch.  It'll be easier to see it firsthand and give feedback then, rather than guessing now.

Don't mention it Mal. That could happen to anyone. Wink

To add to Ruanek's remark:

sure, a Talon is a mobile tachyon ping, but what if it is cloaked...

Scenario: Finally my huge fleet is done, now to go hunt helpless mining stations.  Thats weird, why is there a tachyon ping coming from the middle of nowhere and following my fleet? Ah, of course, a cloaked Talon!!! (activates tachyon scan and Talon is destroyed in a brilliant explosion)
(Scenario end)

I think Ruanek point is that anything that has a tachyon ping and a cloaking device (Talon Refit, Spy Satellites (sometimes)) could be found via the ping even if the vessel (or station) is cloaked, or has that already been taken into account?

yep the ping is still visible even if the caster is cloaked. you can decide if you want to have a mobile tachyon ping (upgraded talon) or a cloaked scout (normal talon). that way both versions are relevant for gameplay

Indeed, not to mention that to stop this scout you have to bring your own mobile (or stationary) anti-cloak unit. I like that non-refitted units will be useful as well in games against cloaking factions. Makes choices much less apparent.
