if your grafic card and your monitor support that high resolutions you can increase the resolution up to 1600x1200x32

if you chose the resolution setting it should stay, or does it get resetted to 800x600 with every start of flops/armada?

when your monitor is capable of 1600x1200 it should be no problem, the last time i saw graphic cards not capable setting resoulutions beyond 1280x1024 lays about 4 years back.
You should check in your monitor manual which frequency your monitor is able to use at these high resolutions.
you can get the newest nvidia drivers (for your Geforce 2 MX400 if you still have it) to pre set your frequencys before switching to a new res. enter the frequencies and res your monitor is able to with this tool and try again.

Note: If you can't find your manuall try 60Hz as start frequency for 1600x1200 and later increase it in 5Hz increments to a more common refresh rate.

some monitors today also can't display 1600x1200 as often tft monitors designed for fixed resolutions can't display higher res. i talked about graphic cards. but whatever, check out the new drivers, maybe you have luck, try to set 1280x1024@60Hz
