How abould adding an Admiral system into FO, similar to the one in Conquest Frontier Wars, but perhaps limiting it to the credit system or having just one avaliable per race.

Say for a large amount of credits, you can have one of your empires most distinguished commanders which bring an added bonus to your fleet (and perhaps even being a stronger unit than their buildable counterparts). I guess it would be difficult to make diverse but balanced, but I thought it would add another aspect of gameplay.

Such examples would be -

USS Enterprise - Captain Picard - Exploration Bonus
Increases sensor efficency of nearby allies by x%.

RIW Valdore - Commander Donatra - Covert Ops Bonus
Allows nearby cloaked units to avoid tachyon detection systems.

USS Premonition - Captain Demming - Temporal Bonus
Allows nearby allies to phase in and out of space time, decreasing the enemies hit chance on your units by x%.

Well, let's start from the basics.

If you compare Fleet Ops and plain Armada 2, you will probably scratch your head and wonder if FO is just another modification or a totally new game. I think modding has its limits to the game. I have been most impressed by how FO is different from A2, but I think it deos have limits.

But if it that is possible, I would love to see that kind of system.. Smiley

I think the planned avatars will do more or less the same as suggested above... and even more.

I agree with you but seeing some hero units thrown in with the avatar systam would be good.

the avatar system is still under heavy development   cheesy

so i can only say what is planed:

the Avatar will change the way of playing a race

per ex. the Federation will have one Avatar who concentrat on small ships/defense and one that concentrat on big ships/attack

For the name of the avatars we prefer Names from our Fleetopsuniverse  Wink, but when all want famous names like Picard, we must think about using them

perhaps we will start a vote for that  Wink

I think a vote would be an excelent idea, it would give the ppl who play the game a chance to have a direct say it an aspect of it. everyone picks who they think the avatars from each race should and when the votes are counted to top two (i think there woere gonna be two per race) would be added.

^ sori for the laymans explanation, all of us should know how a vote works Smiley  ^

i think it will proberly be in the map editor. so you could make copies off all the maps and place a hero vessel on you start point and have it empty or something?

Heros with avartas would be awsome, delivery of them would be teh tricky part though, making them come only once.

Ooooh! CFW. THat game, cept for compatibility issues with every computer I have, is awesome. The Admiral system was the coolest thing I've seen in an RTS ever. If it is doable, having an admiral system where you could assign specific admirals to specific fleets that would give bonuses to that fleet and be able to operate independantly, that would be awesome.

what so you could have a one special affecting fleet one and one affecting fleet two?
I don't think you should do this as you could combine the two and that would defet the purpose!

i have Cfw and u could not do that it was the best Rts game ever and u could only assign 1 admiral to a fleet where he would give bonuses like

Admiral Takei

+50% to fighter dodge

stuff like that there were more bonuses for him but he was a fleet carrier orientated Admiral
