I have not yet begun to fight! -John Paul Jones

After a few weeks of nearly nonstop work (oh online gaming, how I miss thee), I have something to show for my lack of socializing. Thus, it is with great pride that I present to you a guide that isn't just one big block of text--it has pictures!  LOL Hopefully it will serve you well and give you lots of information on strategies, map making, and the official storyline and background for Fleet Operations.

Please enjoy and discuss and feel free to give me criticism as always. It is a work in progress, so not all sections are complete.

//EDIT: 2.0: Well, 161 some odd downloads and a week later... a new version presents itself! Asides from correcting many stupid errors and falsities, a Dominion Unit Profile has been added as well as a Mixed Tech analysis for Dominion and Borg. Additionally, Tech Trees have been Released for Romulan, Borg, and Federation. Stay tuned... the next version of the guide will hopefully include Borg Strategy.... either that or a Klingon Unit Profile and Mixed Tech Analysis. Again, as always, enjoy and give me criticism.
//EDIT: 2.5: due to the egregious error I made with the Federation Technology Tree, I'm posting a new version of the guide. Unleash's other corrections have also been added in
//EDIT: 2.6: Rank 5 abilities are now included.
//EDIT: 2.7: bug hunting as usual... added a Klingon Unit Profile and Mixed Tech analysis, plus revised tech trees for all the factions, plus the start of some Borg vs Borg strategy. Enjoy Smiley
//EDIT: 2.8: Redid the Romulan mid-game transition and anti-Borg sections for Fed and Romies. Added Assimilate Directive strategy.
//EDIT: 2.9: Tons of corrections, tweaking, new pictures, and new additions. Added Risner Strategy. Added Optimize Directive strategy. Added Basics to FO and Map Making Guide (thank you Zebh for your efforts!). Added Dominion Strategy (thanks Mal!).
//EDIT: 3.0: Many corrections and additions--a little bit more info on the Tech Trees. Fleet Operations storyline and information on all factions, avatars, and plans current and future have been added (that which I could glean of course). Hotkey information added.
//EDIT: 3.1: Additions to the Ciadan storyline (and some other small tidbits for Klingon and Borg), more info in the tech trees and reworking of the unit profiles for all factions to include the crew resource. Corrections to the “class and size” information in the unit profiles as well as hit chance corrections and additions. A few additions to the Basics section such as describing decommissioning and the prelaunch game setttings window. Dev cheats now described in the basics section. New section--getting online--added. Federation Section: third strategy for Mayson described. Klingon Section: outline of strategy listed for mainly TaQ’roja, but also a bit for Martok. Cooperative Multiplayer Section: some basic hints added. Still largely incomplete

//EDIT: 3.14 PIE edition is out! Tongue Added a little bit more Klingon strategy, added a little more security information for the Wippien section (what to turn off in the adaptor specifically etc), added some more Team Strategy stuff and a few things to the Basics section.

A link to AII files will be posted soon Smiley ...turns out the next version is out before AII even put up version 3.1...

If you are having trouble with that site, Doca has put up the guide in the main downloads section ( ) The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations V3.14

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You might have been wondering why no new versions of the Guide have been posted for several weeks. Well, it is with great happiness that I am able to say that the reason for this is because Zebh (and me to a much lesser extent) have been hard at working creating a semi-wikified website for the Guide for the past few weeks Smiley

Without further ado, here is the link, so take a look around and please give me as much feedback as possible that way we can make the Guide as useful as possible.

The Main Page - The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations

One more thing, note that this is still a work in progress, and really although it would have been nice to release it full formed, that will take some more time. Hopefully it will still be useful, interesting, and enjoyable in its mostly completed state. Share and enjoy Cheesy

Thing on task for to do:

-Unit Overviews (Fed one has some uncompleted sections dealing with warp in)--stats at each rank will be added as well.

-Mixed Tech Unit Overviews-stats at each rank will be added as well.
-Tech Trees
-Feedback Section (wiki portion open to everyone)
-Design your own Strategies Section (wiki portion open to everyone)
-Map sharing section (open to everyone)
-Some download features and lots of pictures

Complete Overhaul!
Well, got one thing done on the looooong (and abbreviated above) list Tongue

I thought I noticed your handywork.  Especially on the Assimilator beam-in-the-face shot.

Very cool guide.
I just about finished the entire series of HH, and the type of writing style you used is really similar to the books.

Great Work!

Thanks for the comments and compliments guys, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside  Cheesy

Indeed thanks to S'klar for new ideas on screenshots, and of course taking screenshots Tongue (more of his will be featured in the upcoming Borg section)

Just looked at the download ticker: 42 downloads made me nearly drop to the floor laughing

When it gets to 47, take it down Tongue

Seriously though, great guide. I'm crap at FO, but this will help me get better.

Thankyou Dominus for all the hard work you've put into this; it's really comprehensible too. Obviously it isn't perfect and/or finished yet - I noticed a few little things on my first read through that probably missed your final proof read, so if you want me to I can post them here.
Just things like stray formatting, or outdated information from a previous version.

By the way, when can we expect an update? Or are you going to wait for 3.0.7 so you can do the Borg more effectively?

No problemo  Azn

Certainly feel free to post your corrections here (or you can PM them to me if you feel that would be better)

I'll post an update as soon as I get corrections (and get a chance to read it over again... *sigh*, now I have to read 70 some pages)--a more extensive update for Borg (and defending against the Borg) will be posted after 3.07, because the cost and colective connections changes for Borg is supposed to change how they gain access to units... which of course is pretty big in terms of strategy. I feel it would be best if I spent my time in the meantime adding in Techtrees for each of the factions and whatever else can be done during 3.0.6 (testing more strats ...  ) . As this is a bigger guide than I am used to, updates will probably take me a bit longer depending on the amount of corrections (hopefully I should be able to get out at least one update per week though).
