First up - congrats on bringing life back to Armada 2 for me.  FO both looks and play great, and a group of my friends & I are all getting it so we can play together.

Now-- on to the problem.

Since long ago, all my friends & I have been playing is random map games - since we got bored of all the regular maps.  When we first got FO we obviously tried to follow tradition, and started a game with a random map.  Well, soon as you hit "LAUNCH", it brings up the loading screen, the loading completes, and then host & all clients are knocked to their desktops with an error.  The error is in file:

Armada2.tgt (of course!)

I checked the logs, and theres an access violation error.  This of course led me to believe that there was a read-only file that should not have been, so I set all my FO files & folders to read/write.  This obviously did not solve the problem, and soon as the game is run, it reverts some of the file or folder properties back to read-only -- I'm not sure if this is related, but perhaps its helpful information nonetheless.

SOOO.. is this an isolated incident?  Have others been able to play with random maps?  Have others NOT been able to play with random maps?  Did the FO developers forget about random maps entirely? (heh, I too am a software developer, so I could see how you might overlook it -- plus I think it'd be a large job to make it compatible, since FO uses many new map elements).

As I see it, perhaps it'd just be easiest to remove the "use random map" option from the advanced options menu of the multi-player & instant action games screens.

Anyway, good luck, and keep up the good work -- We look forward to the next release, particularly playing as DOMINION!!

Welcome to the forums Smiley

Yep. The random map feature does not work with Fleet Operations, cause we changed to much of the Armada2 environment.
But we will try to get it back working for the final version.
Till then we will flood you with many new maps in each of the coming betas ;-)

And have fun playing it in multiplayer Smiley

Ok cool.  Probably a good idea to remove the option from the Advanced Options Screen - it almost caused us to abandon the game, and if that happened to us, that might happened to others.  This is bad cuz I kinda want the FO community to grow-- and become more popular.   You guys have done a great job, and deserve more recognition.
