OK not sure if this is the right place as it doesn't actually involve the patch project but does involve a mod I'm making that uses the patch project. As you guys have done a lot of delving into the code I thought you might be able to answer my question.

What causes meshes starting with b_ to only appear when the race that has the ship is the Borg.

My guess would be one of the commands from borg.odf

probably

name = borg

If I have a race with racename = potatoes

and

name = borg

will captured ships use their b_ meshes or is it something else that triggers it?

yes, the textures are used as soon as a race that has borg as its name captures a vessel
