Visual Aids for Special Weapons:With some of the special weapons (like the Tachyon detection grids and other "area effect" powers), would it be possible for there to be a visual aid (like a feint ring) to help the player determine the coverage of the weapon (for is there making rows of sensor stations and the like).

Phase cloak & Tachyons: Canonically, phase cloak is meant to shift the ship out of phase with the universe. Wouldn't that technically mean they couldn't be seen by tachyon grid/detects? Maybe putting it in would be too unbalancing, but i felt it worth a mention.

Tachyon nullifier: A possible end-tree special weapon (likely passive) i thought up for a Romulan ship (perhaps a Talon upgrade for one avatar). Essentially, anything within a small radius of the vessel would be immune to cloak detect powers, as the device manipulates the tachyon particles involved in those systems. The ship itself would also be immune, and the ability would work even under cloak, so you could sneak around a small force (Red Alert players think Gap Generator here). Several possibilities for balancing it include:
  • Making the host ship really weak (a.k.a Talon)
  • Making the unit/ability cost credits
  • If possible, make it so only small vessels can be hidden, larger ships are too big to be sheilded

So yeah, as always, opinions welcome.

Do we need to see the Tachyon Detection? It covers the hosts entire Sensor range, plus you can tell its range because a Cloaked ship appears. As for Phase Cloak,  the ship is out of phase, but the cloaking field should still be there.

the sensor- and weaponrange of stations is already displayed while playing them in the current dev build. visible ranges for special weapons are another story we are thinking about.

visual aids are actually in fleetops ingame for sensors and standard weapons as circle around a vessel when you hover the weapon or sensor system, however they are not yet in for special weapons. however, this is on todo
