while it would be cool to be born in a spacefairing empire in the future, maybe on Europa, Triton, or Io. I think I would prefer mid-16th century japan (ancient feudal japan) in Onwari (spelling?), Kai, or Echigo provinces.

The time or place dose not matter the only thing that dose relay is what you make of the time you are in.
Happiness is not a product of things time or people its some thing you crate, Most people crate unhappiness and think it is some thing out side of them that make them unhappy.
For me I some times told my self be for learning this that technology makes me happy with means when I did not have it I was not happy. When I gave that up, gave up one the idea of being rich being some one that seems cool and released non of that will actually make me happy. When I gave up money as some thing I "NEEDED" I had a opening to redefine what was impotent to me.
So it relay dose not matter when you are born it only matters hat you do with the life you have.

In relation to Eufnoc... It's only a matter of perspective: that's the one allowance for time travel afterall... aka if the matter being "transported" already exists in the future, then it can be forced into the future... Time is not actually directly perceived and thus the past is merely "before now" . The future is always the present. In some sense you are always planning for the present....
