I have to admit, I'd put humans quite high up if I had a list. Humans are quite well balanced. They're also tougher than they look and have a natural tendency towards progress (it shouldn't be taken for granted that the 21st century acceleration of technology would happen for every race).

This is why humans became very advanced in a few centuries, whereas the Vulcans, although smart, took thousands of years, and even then they only became a power by co-founding the Federation with the expansionist, progressionist humans. So while the Klingons got their technology through conquest, and the Ferengi through theft, the humans got it by research, development, collaboration and economic growth.

Planet Earth rocks!!! Only the Breen dared attack it, and they had bone-chillingly effective weapons. Vulcan required a full Federation fleet to protect it, because the pussies were afraid that if a soldier actually landed on their soil, something terrible might happen, such as their perfect hairdos might get messed up. I think I've gone off on a tangent again haven't I. Oh well.

I agree with Dr. Lazarus. (Wow...isn't that strange  LOL )

One thing I wanted to add though, is that while a lot of our tech DID come from research, and all that type of stuff, a lot of it came because of war/tense situations. Hospitals came because of the Black Plague, atomics from WWII, etc, etc.

True, it could be that our underlying tendency towards conflict accelerates technological progress beyond what it would be. Quite sad when you think about it, but I guess it also lends itself to benign application eventually, e.g. new materials developed by defense companies.

the biggests spurs in tech have always come from war, i mean look at last century, the blimp, then the plane was invented, so the fighter plane was invented, then the jet, the the stealth jet.

look at medcine, in times of peace things liek the church rules and said you can't cut that dead guy up, you can't do this you can't do that, then war comes along and a field surgeon saves a guys life by spilling hot oil on him to stop the bleeding and look at that we have a new live saving skill.

1 .Humans
2 .Cardassian
3 .Borg (if considered a Race)
4 .Romulans
5 .Dominion

The Humans as mentioned are well balanced and excellent researchers.

The Cardassians are a Prideful Warrior Race like the Klingons but more balanced.

The Borg just take the best of everything, and work as a whole. They 'are' a caste system but the collective and the ultimate pursuit of perfection neutralizes the weaknesses of this society. They also have (imo) the best technology.

The Romulans are devious and great researchers, however 'They have no honor' and generally have to resort to some strange tactics.

The Dominion has decent technology, on par (imo) with Humanity. However they use a caste system which I believe to be fundamentally weak.

For me it's the Romulans because I'm absolutely in love with the D'deridex and Norexan class warbirds. Their girls are also hot  Cheesy and the cloaking technology  is very effective(as long as Data is not around commanding a Nebula Tongue)

My second favorite are the Feds because of the Defiant. Defiant FTW!

3. Feddys! They have this special feeling about them.

Oh i like 8472 aswell. Has anyone else noticed how they begin to call them 8472 in voyager but then in later episodes changes it to 7472?
