Is it possible to add the Variable Nacelle's to the Intrepid Class? Without Warp, they could increase Impulse speed.

Except of course that the Intrepid only alters the position of its nacelles when it's about to jump into warp...

The reason the Intrepid class alters the Nacellle geometry is for  Warp  feild  efficentcy / Stress on the space frame. To use a Boating analogy   Push poles would be your  manevering thrusters , Trolling motor would be your impulse, then you have your outdrive or outboard to go fast. one would alter the  trim  and angle of attact to make the boat  more efficent. while trolling you   pick up the  out drive   out of the water to  lower the drag.

Yeah it's very possible as many other mods have incorporated the feature as a ( sprite ) if I remember rightly, ( been a while since I was into modding )

but there is no point in FO unless you give the Intrepid a Warp button because as stated above at impulse there is no need.

Maybe allow a short term speed burst (special energy stuff)?

I remember reading somewhere that when a ship is under impulse power, they activate the nacelles to create a warp field around the ship, which causes it's weight to be significantly lightened, this means that the impulse engines do not have to work as hard to push the ship. Seeing as the intrepid was meant as an advanced scout/light science ship, raising the nacelles could further the subspace field, which would allow the ship to go faster?

As I recall, Starfleet didn't build that many Intrepid class ships. You only see it once on DS9. What if we added it to the Starfleet Command station so we could warp it in from another sector (or wherever the ships come from). As it warps in, we could see the naceles up. When it drops out of warp, the naceles could lower. Trade places w/ the Steamrunner class (we saw that ship quite often on DS9 and federation battles).

You may have only seen 2 in the show, but that type of Ship you know Starfleet will very likely mass produce. It's fast and versatile, there's no way Starfleet would settle with only a few.

Plus, it's not exactly...the most credit-worthy ship. The intrepid's low cost, fast, and still has enough weapons to hold it's own in a small fight, so I don't really think it's one of those ships that would be used with your credits. It seems more logical and proper for it to be built.
