yea, legacy shares a lot of code that is still 1:1 that of armada 2. i say that not by looking at odf files or something but because i have taken a look into legacy's binaries.
i think a lot code for all armada 2 weapons, parts of the old sound engine, dilithium moons, ferengi etc is still there but some important parts of the strategy game element are gone. gameobjects (asteroids, crafts, planets, nebulas...) don't have as many functions anymore, they were just stripped to fit the shooter type of gameplay. nearly impossible to get as far with legacy as to make an armada 3 out of it.

I've picked up a game that has a great engine and MODing tools and support up the wazoo. It's Sins of a Solar Empire. The gameplay is real nice and from the mods i've seen there's a great deal that one can do with the engine. Have you tried taking a look at this game?

Does that mean that future versions of the mod won't be made for armada 2 at all?

No I doubt that... I'm sure the team has something up its sleeve for what's the next step after their final A2 release. They're prolly just "shopping" around for a new engine to work with. Something worthy of the MOD and fairly easy to mold into what they want. A2 was a great start cause it's easy to MOD out. As for the next engine it will be hard to find that just right game to play with. I found Sins very easy to work with. And the community as well as the developers help out. Besides someone placed a miranda class ship into the game already. And a SW MOD is in process. I like the game and the Engine. From what I've seen on the forums there is SO much that can be changed including making your own weapons, ships, buildings and much more. Considering the scale of the game I'd love to see a HUGE TREK Mod for it.

How about star wars empire at war. Or the improved engine from universe at war. They are bouth easy to mod ( lots of xml to play with ) and empire at war has bouth space and ground battles. For a future release you could add bouth a ground and a space gameplay. I for one would love to see some federation trek like tanks fight some romulan stealth vehicles or something. Would add a totaly new feeling to the game.

There was a Startrek game  that had ground battles with Klingon, Romulan, and the  Federation  .The Idea was good, but playability was Wayless than stellar. You had to follow strictly scripted missions. No freelancing of objectices or exploring  out if the known areas. the AI was REAL Stupid. The title was "NEW WORLDS"  on the plus sides I did like the  Federation Photon Artilery  and the Romulan Cloaked tanks.

I LUVED that game. I never got to play it a lot, and found the AI REALLY annoying...but...I really loved building stations and seeing their construction, and the weapons were kinda cool. All in all, the game itself lowered it's own score, but I kinda liked the gameplay.

What I disliked was the  the  Static levels of  gameplay each race was  a different level of diffaculty , you could not switch off. the vehicle Gui was real Quirky. I took it off my computer  a while back , Wanted to play again , just for giggles. But  now can't get it to load. Sad

Hey Doc got a Q for ya. Is there a way to have the ships move while in combat instead of just getting into range then stopping and firing from the same position, I mean without microing the ships of course sort of like a "space dogfight" of some sort. So they don't look like stiff ships just standing still.
