I got fleet ops installed in Vista 64bit!
How you may ask? Simple:

Use safemode to install FO. Why? Because the process that prevents the decoding of the audio is apprarently disabled in safemod.

Now on to something else:
I used the so-called betafix patch for vista. It didn't work! It still freezes on me when I do certain things.
Feds seems to be random or something. It just freezes.

Klingons freeze everytime I try to use the second research platform.

What is the deal with this freezing?!

for reference: I went 3.0pr, Multimedia, patch1, then vista patch.

Did you install using XP originally? ...stumps me, I never have those problems and I am using 32 bit (maybe that's the reason....?)
Glad it's workin though

On the same note, I propose that this thread either be lumped with one for fixing FO in Vista by a mod, or titled something along the lines of "alternative Vista fix," so that it may more easily be found

I used to have xp and everything always worked fine. Is it possible something could be wrong with my copy? also, This other guy did it before me, But it was buried in the thread about the vista betafix.

I have armada 1 and aside from adjusting capatability, no freezing!

your find its because you installed it to program files... with all versions of Vista it wont work from program files... you need to go in there and grab the fleet ops folder and shove it on your desktop... Basically UAC stops the program from working because of how the loader is writtern if i remember correctly.

It seems I've got the same problem, I also have Vista x64.
Everthing is fine, I start a game and then suddenly my mouse pointer freezes.
When I keep moving my mouse, I can hear button sounds, but my pointer doesn't move.
I've tried to let it work with compatibilty, Run as Administrator.
I've also used the install from my brother which runs on Vista x86 and Eufnoc's install.

My system:
Q6600
Nvidia 6800 (I know it's old, but I had to send back my new videocard, it was broken when I got it)
4 GB RAM
1.81 TB hard disk (1.72 TB free)

I hope someone has a solution for this. (I'll probably install XP on a Virtual machine for now.)
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I also disabled UAC.

1.) No need to install in safe-mode, simply disable decoder in taskbar when the error occurs.

2.) I have Vista 64bit and didn't have any problems with the Klingons, don't think it's a Vista problem Smiley

Sorry for using the thead. But I also have problems on vista 64. I can't play as the Dominion (CTD) or use that cloaked probe of the Klingons (also CTD). Everything else works just fine!

I uses the BetaFix. Any other suggestions?

Thx!

Hi!

Haven't seen that thread before, sorry. I really think it had something to do with the media files, because the game started and than crashed after one second or so. The same with the Klingon probe. So I re-installed the multimedia pack, and this seems to have done the trick. Very strange.

Thanks for your help, djpaulus! That thread was helpful, after all. Now, only the Cardassians are missing for a perfect game! Wink

The bortas probe is a known error. It doesn't work for anyone.
