Is there any idea of the minimum specifications v3 will need? I'm running a 1.8GHz 1Gb RAM nVidia GeForce 6600LE, it runs Armada 2 itself pretty good, but Fleet Ops looks like it will murder it...

If I do get a new PC, is Armada2/Fleet Ops multithread compatible, if I got multiple CPUs would it spread load of just use one?

Well... according to the site:
System Requirements für Armada II: Fleet Operations

Minimum:
Pentium 4 (1.5 GHz) or Athlon 1500+
256 MB RAM
Windows 2000
64 MB Video Card
4x CD-ROM drive
1 GB hard-disk space

 Recommended:
Athlon 2000 + or Pentium 4 (2.44 GHz) and higher
1 GB RAM
Windows 2000/XP/Vista
128 MB Video Card or higher
LAN or broadband internet connection for multiplayer

Thus your rig should be good enough

It depends on lots of things. A 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo is faster than a 3Ghz pentium 4, and RAM comes in many flavours too. As for graphics cards, I have an NVidia GeForce 8500GT, which is reasonably fast but it's a lot slower than an 8600 or 8800.

I reckon a 6 series will probably do the job nicely as long as it's not a budget card. Otherwise you'd have to lower the settings on Furry Onions.

The details do seem to matter. My guess if you wanted max settings would be:

2Ghz Core 2 Duo or AMD X2
1Gb RAM if you have vista, 512Mb if you have XP
Middle range 6 series or higher, or ATI equivalent
4 speed CD-ROM as usual
1 Gb hard disk space

My pc is using a 1.66Ghz Intel core 2 duo processor, 2GB Ram, nVidia GeForce 8400M Gs. Should this be enough to run the final release of Fleetops?

I want a Hamstermatic 3001. Now.  Cheesy

I'm guessing the Hamster rotating the wheel generates Floating Point Operations per second which are well suited to graphics processing. Sounds good.
