Hi,

thx alot for everything you have done so far.

At the same time think about evolving the vista patch into a balancing patch. The Armada 2 experience needs to be refreshed, so the interest for the game comes back.

I played thousands of online matches, created over 70 maps and hosted once a ladder for Armada 2 and am leader of a clan that was once heavily into armada 2.

If you do an Armada 2 balancing patch I will promote it, by linking it and posting about it in our forums over there.
Destiny Dealers Online Gaming Clan

Here are my suggestions:

Armada Patch 2.0

Goals:

- Avoiding frustration for newcomers, because they cannot longer build crap ships
- Bringing ships alive that were never used before online by good players
- Balancing out the races, by helping some races to easier fight back early rushes
- Making the game more interesting for veterans, because they can try out never used before tactics
- Enabling range attacks like in Armada 1
- Making the game easier to learn, but harder to master
- Balanced races will raise the acceptance for newcomers to chose their races

Global changes for all Races:
- Scout vision range increased by 50 %
- Bomber attack range increased by 50 %

Romulan changes:
- Shrikes crew cost reduced to 40 crew
- Draconis firepower increased by 10 %

Cardassia Changes:
- Sartans build time decreased by 10 %

Borg Changes:
- Sphere crew cost reduced by 50 %

Klingon Changes:
- Suq Jagh general building cost reduced by 20 %

Species Changes:
- Fregates firepower increased by 20 %

Federation:
- Sabre build time decreased by 10 %
- Akira metal cost decreased by 50 %
- Intrepid firepower increased by 20 %

That would be more of a mod than a patch, to be honest... A good set of ideas, but PP is for patches and extra functionality, not a mod in itself.

If its a mod people wouldnt play it, if its the patch, there is a chance some people would use it.

If you take Warcraft 3, they will do a balancing patch (1.22) 6 years after the release.

Right, but something that you have to remember about blizzard is that they are insanely rich, and they got the idea for their flagship title from what players were doing on Warcraft 3, furthermore, it should be noted that the current goal of the patch is to introduce new features for modders to use, at this point Armada 2 online gameplay is entirely in a effort by its massive mod base, and the core game it self is for the most part untouched, while the Mods take it to a whole new level.

the patch project is about adding extra features to armada 2 for modders and gamers a like, BUT without breaking compatiability with non patch project armada's.

so what this basically means nearly all your ideas just can't be made in the patch project....

infact readign through it your whole entire is a mod and not a patch at all, your not fixing issues but change a lot at odf level though most are easily achiveable ot be hoenst mate for anyone to do... you could do it yourself if you download WestWorlds Big Book of Modding...

" Balancing out the races, by helping some races to easier fight back early rushes"

doing that alone would take so much time from the fleetops team they might as well stop their own mod and just do yours and don't even start me on the rest of your ideas which are brief as hell and very unhelpful....

"- Avoiding frustration for newcomers, because they cannot longer build crap ships

- Making the game easier to learn, but harder to masters
- Making the game more interesting for veterans, because they can try out never used before tactics"

what ships are those?what ships aren't used? Who said its easy to learn, who said it is hard to master or not? What tactics are these that need to be invented, how would you impliment them? its lld own to opinion...

im sorry for the rant but i'd much rather the devs just carried on with fleetops and didnt evne bother with the patch project at the moment...

P.S. Welcome to the forum by the way and that isnt meant to be an attack on you because new ideas are always welcome but just an expression of my opinion.

yes, the patch project is not intended to update armada 2 gameplay. that i leave to other modders that can use the patch projects modding features to improve the game experience Smiley

second red man's core statement:: this is about Flops not vanilla A2; vanilla A2 is like C&C spam tanks and be done for it;

I think there are a bazillion mods out there dabbling with A2 vanilla balance; When V3 final is out and everyone had a game or 2 we can start thinking about balancing issues in v3;

Until then, have a pan galactic gargle blaster!

iT IS A MOD and I'll tell you why its a mod you don't need a patch to do any of the thing you are talking about. you need to edit the stock odf files to do every thing you mentioned and you can do all of this now. If you are worried about people not playing it then you can do one of to things. Involve the community or dress it up with pretty "new models to improve the look along with the game play. There are currently 15 TCs that are complete for A2 Each one has its own balance and such. There are atleast 7 more I know of in verious stages of production and they to will have their own balance.  It sounds like you have the basic idea for a good small mod. what you do with that is up to you.

Trip... I have the ultimate solution! Your ideas sound like you want to play Fleet Ops! Here comes the solution: Download FO 3.0 PR then see what potential is in there and then wait a short time until the final release of Fleet Operations which will contain everything you ever imagined of a very good Star Trek RTS.
I promise you, playing FO 3.0 online will be more like just a fresh update of an Armada 2 experience. It' will feel like a new game.
