Online Connectivity Problems

Hi; new to the boards; but have been playing Fleet Ops on and off for a few months now; let me just say that its an awesome mod and I look forward to playing online with others in the community!
I've made my first attempt at trying to play the game online; I have about 2-3 friends who have also installed the game and are ready to play online; except we're all having the same problem:
"could not connect to gamespy server" is what I get every time I try to create a game. I've opened all the necessary tcp/udp ports (im pretty sure); tried looking at the nethelp file in the fleet ops directory (which lead me to enable the dmz option); still no luck
"cannot connect o manual ip" is what I get when i try to create a game via manual ip; I also tried connecting to my friend but he couldnt create a game so i ended up in an empty lobby
we're all getting the same error(S); I've tried uninstalling and re-installing fleet ops; i've installed FleetOps3PRPatch1
I've also installed startrekarmada2 patch 1.1; any ideas; anyone? please?

Armada Patch 1.1 is included with the fleetops install (or that was the impression I was under). So there is no need to install the patch. All you need is Fleetops really. I ended up having to use Hamachi, (

) wonderful little program, and then once that is up and running, just play as if LAN.

HEY FULLPHASER; thank you for the insight; i downloaded hamachi this morning before heading to work; i'm gonna give that a shot; but but.. is this what the entire community is doing in order to play fleet ops?
Has anyone else had the problem i described?
I actually tried to play online using just armada II (no fleet ops) with patch 1.1 and then 1.2.5 installed; same exact problem though; cannot connect to gamespy server or cannot connect to manual ip
I'm hoping hamachi solves all my problems; but surely there must be some other solution as well, other than using a vpn?

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I just used the posted route. No problems since

Yeah if you wanna have a chat with someone in the gamespy room, but your internet connection is busted, a solution is to communicate via written letter, if the other person agrees to do so.
