Right come out of work and my Dad offered to take me to a Pub as I'm off to Switzerland for 3 months, had no wallet and hence no ID on me, to purchase Alcohol in England at the bar the legal age is 18 ( I am 19 and generaly don't mind being ID'd) I sat down and orderd my meal and when asked what drink would I like I said I'll have a Pint of Larger please (If having a meal the drinking age in England is 16 to buy and above the age of 5 to consume, however this is not a well known law). I quoted this law to her and was still refused, I had my meal and a pint of coke and once I got home I sent the following email: So if your under the age of 16 in the uk and they tell you you can not drink please kick off and tell people you are right and you can back up what your saying, I'm so feed up of quoting this law and being told i am wrong lol. |

I'm curious, was the pub like a "village pub" or something a bit more commercial? It was usually only the latter that I would be carded at on any of my visits.

Yeah, usually people associate 16 with restaurant, and 18 with bar, and don't realise that when they serve food it automatically brings the age down.
I'm curious, was the pub like a "village pub" or something a bit more commercial? It was usually only the latter that I would be carded at on any of my visits.
It is a national chain that serve a cravery 7 days a week. P.S. ignor this bit i just want to see the glow effect lol |

yh altho u got the legal side right its still up2 the pub/resturant owner if they stick by the law as they dont have 2 ive seen some places were they ban any1 hus not 21+ its all a matter of being allowed to serve hu they want. since the legal age 2 buy ciggerettes has been increased 2 18 i have seen ppl getting served them but been refused alchol from the same place at the same time which is dumb

Im 23, yet I can count the number of drinks I've ever had on one hand. Seriously.
I wouldn't worry about it, I'd probably never be allowed into a bar 'cos I look so young. Buy beer for home, grab a pizza, watch a movie and have some fun. The whole "going out" thing is massively overrated.

Awesome movie.... but I like Hot Fuzz better  Meh, usually I just "social drink": not enough to get drunk ever. I can't really see the point in drinking alone  |

Yeah, drinking has no purpose on its own in the same sense that breathing has no purpose, unless those activities allow or enhance other more meaningful activities. Breathing certainly helps if you want to go roller skating, for example. But breathing just for breathing's sake, now that's just stupid!  Additionally, I can see how drinking, while useless in of itself, would enhance, for example, painting, or scientific research. I think the next time I'm doodling in my 50 pence sketchbook, I'll drink a few buds, might help release the creativity from the mind. |

I see what you mean, but there are also other ways to meet people, such as clubs, sports, even the local library, and then when you make friends with them you can invite them round for pizza  It's only my personal opinion, but when I balance the good things about "going out" with the risk of someone smashing a bottle over my head (or worse), I think that sometimes staying in is preferable, and is not a sign that a person doesn't know how to have fun. Having said that, going out to the pictures or the theatre occasionally can be great fun, it's about balance I think. |
