On the long and stony path to the completion of Fleet Operations 3.0 the Romulans got many redos, too. They were mainly balancing and game mechanic changes, but some model redos are also scheduled, like a new Rhienn Class model.

One of the main things we looked at in the past weeks were special abilities. The changes in the game mechanics for the system value (it does now also reduce the special energy costs of special abilities) already gave the Romulans a small boost, cause most Romulan vessels feature higher system values. In general you will have to search quite a bit longer to find a special ability with costs higher then 80, so special abilities got a bit stronger.

The Refractive Shielding passive ability of the Generix Frigate Refit for example has been changed to an active ability. It does now greatly reduce the damage from pulse weapons, but only for 2 minutes. Time enough to blast that ugly Defiants to hell.

On of our re-balancing goal was to give every ship an active or passive ability, that means that the Serkas for example - which had neither active nor passive specials in the PR - got a new ability to research. "Silent Resolve" allows you fire one singe Quadcobalt Torpedo while cloaked - but only at long range. With a hand full of Serkas Class vessels thats still a good start for an assault.

Another point in re-balancing was the priority of credits. Units that cost credits had their costs greatly decreased or their strength increased. Second one goes for the Tavara here. In addition the "my home is my castle" character of the Tavara got underlined by granting her upgrades, very similar to the Starbase Upgrades featured in a recent news post. You may upgrade Offensive, Defensive and System Value (last one goes along with a better cloaking technology) for her.

There will probably be a few more changes till Version 3.0 - we are currently thinking about changes in the way the Plasma Mines behave - but I think thats enough for our small presentation. Lets end this report with the famous mixed tech list and a small preview of the unique mixed tech unit.

Federation Technology:
  • Talon Class Repair Refit
    + 1 Defensive Value
    + Repair Beam

  • Leahval Class
    + 2 Defensive Value
    + 2 Offensive Value
    + Burstfire Torpedos

  • Generix Class Frigate Refit
    + 1 Defensive Value
    + Critical Shot special ability

Klingon Technology:
  • Saeihr Class
A complete new vessel! See below

  • Rhienn Pulse Refit
    + 1 Offensive Value
    + Quad Pulse Disruptors

  • Generix Class
    + 2 Offensive Value
+ This bonus does also apply to all refits made off this unit

Dominion Technology:
  • Rhienn Class Torpedo Refit
    + 1 Offensive Value
+ Deals increased damage to stations

  • Leahval
    - 2 Offensive Value
    + 4 System Value
    + Cascade Feedback special ability

  • Serkas Class
    + 3 Offensive Value
    + Blastradius increased

Borg Technology:
  • Generix Class Frigate Refit
    + 2 to all Attributes
+ Graviton Energy Source passive ability (increased shield recharge, counts as the wight class "station")

  • Leahval Class
    + 2 to all Attributes
+ While the Advanced Energy Reeling special ability is active the Leahval will fire with a Slizer weapon

  • Rhienn Class Disruptor Refit
    + 1 to all Attributes
+ Short Range Transwarp special ability

The unique mixed tech ship: The Saeihr Class

If you were lucky and captured a Klingon constructor - or you have an Klingon ally - you may build a unique predator of the Romulan Empire. The Saeihr is one of the very few heavy cruiser chassis of the Romulan empire and is equipped with a small Disruptor and two very powerful Particle Weapons. An intense crew training and advanced computer systems allows this specialist to strike over long range.

Concave Plasma Conduits special ability
The particle weapons in the Saeihr are also quite a unique thing. Their energy systems can be exchanged with a special Concave Plasma Conduit system, that will greatly increase the energy flow in the particle cannons and therefore will cause much higher damage. Sadly the conduits will burn out in a short time and need to be replaced for every usage. Thats symbolized by 2 Supply costs in addition to the normal special energy costs.

Fantastic.

Always liked the Roms.

I just hope that the borg are equally impressive.

Tavaras are powerful. Hope the cubes are powerful still.

Good job guys.
Love the seihlir class too.

Keep it coming. Cheers

...Impressive? THEY'RE THE BORG!!! can you get any more impressive? LOL

I must agree though, the romulans do look cool. I love the idea of starbase upgrades on the Tavara; she certainly sounds like one heck of a ship, especially with this instant cloak (i'll make a note to assimilate any i see ). The torpedo from cloak is a great one too; really fitting for a romulan ship.

Go team; nice work!

Great stuff! I just imagine a Rom-Borg mix tech that enables you to cloak and uncloak your entire base at once just by clicking  one button in your Starbase. Imagine your whole base including turrets and stuff appearing in front of you, realizing that you are just in the center of a heavy armed base... muahaha
